Suiran, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Kyoto

Arashiyama/Sagano/Takao
My wife’s birthday trip at the Suiran was a dream come true. With successive Covid cancellations, it took us four years of planning, but it was worth the wait. With their traditional Japanese structures and landscaping, the Suiran was our oasis of calm during Kyoto’s busiest season (cherry blossoms). We enjoyed a wonderful dinner and the best breakfasts of our lives in their dining room, and blissful riverside happy hours in their cafe. Our comfortable room had all the amenities, and a soothing minimalist aesthetic. The Suiran staff is spectacular: thoughtful, gracious, attentive. Through our years of planning and days of enjoyment, we were guided by Suiran’s chief concierge, Hiromi Maruyama. Her kindness, patience, and expertise added greatly to the success of our time in Kyoto. Her suggestions and insights, and good spirits were a beacon shining our way. We are indebted to her for her efforts on our behalf.

This hotel is incredible ! It’s brand new, rooms are very upmarket, great facilities, quality of food (breakfast needs to be experienced to be believed), gym was excellent but it is the service that is absolutely mind blowing ! We haven’t experienced anything like it decades ! The check in experience was first class, room service first class and the concierge managed to surprise us every single day - running after us with umbrellas, chasing down taxi’s in the rain, big smiles every day and they were all really nice to our 5 Year old daughter (and it was genuine) ! So, we left our passports in the room safe by mistake - they called as soon as they found them (by which time we were in Tokyo) - the hotel manager, Kiyoshi Gomamoto sent one of their staff (Kokoro) to Tokyo hi hand deliver/return our passports to us, she was a lovely lady ! We are so appreciative and will cherish the memories from this hotel ! Thank you Kokoro, Kiyoshi and everyone at Fauchon. Highly recommended !

Kyoto Station and surrounding areas
This hotel apartment is really great! 1. The location is excellent, just a few minutes walk from Tokyo Station, and there is actually bus 205 at the entrance of the hotel that can go directly to Kinkakuji Temple, and you can also go through the shopping area. You can also walk to some attractions around the hotel, such as Higashi Honganji Temple, Nishi Honin Temple, etc., and Sanjusangendo Hall can actually be reached on foot. 2. The room area is very large. We live in a two-bedroom suite. The lobby is very large, and several suitcases are placed casually, which is really rare in Japan! The furniture and furnishings are very new and very modern and beautiful. All the facilities in the room are complete. There are small kitchen appliances and tableware, so you can cook. There is also a vinyl record player, and you can borrow records in the library and record room on the 8th floor. 3. The service is very good. The waiters at the reception on the first floor can communicate in English. Some people speak English very fluently and have a pure accent. They try their best to meet the requirements of the guests. There is a self-service snack and beverage room on the 9th floor. The drinks, water, snacks, and beer in it are free. As long as you don’t waste it deliberately, you can drink it at will. Only red wine is paid for, just put in coins and buy it yourself. My family of 4, including the elderly and children, are all very satisfied. Such a comfortable place brought us great satisfaction during the hot summer trip. I will definitely stay here again when I come to Kyoto in the future! PS: This apartment is not clearly marked on Ctrip (I think this is Ctrip's negligence). This apartment is actually part of a hotel called TUNE STAY, so when looking for it, just follow the address to find TUNE STAY and go in boldly! It is also recommended that the hotel put the HIDEOUT SUITE sign at the door, so that we will not toss and turn for almost an hour like when we arrived on the first day. Later, the front desk guy of the hotel next door helped us find it through the translation software, and found that we were actually at the door all the time...😅😂

Nijo Castle
6 of us (2 teens, 2 in their mid 20s, 2 mid 50s) had 3 rooms here in June of 2024. The rooms are a bit small but very clean and comfortable. We had no issues with noise and the proximity to the train station is excellent. We booked nearly 1 year in advance and therefore our rates were extraordinarily reasonable and allowed us all some space. There is a small food and beverage credit to recognize titanium, which was expected, but I would not advise the breakfast option and save it for cocktails. There are several nice cafes and bakeries nearby. The service was outstanding - facilitated cabs, answered questions, gave great recommendations. Overall it fit our needs for multiple rooms that were clean and hip for our teens/twenty somethings without breaking the bank.

Room was very clean and comfortable, though pillows were a bit flat. I liked that the bathroom had a separate standing shower area and bathtub, instead of being combined like many Japan hotels tend to offer. Could do with some hooks for hanging your clothes though. Breakfast was excellent with a wide variety, they even serve ice-cream. Overall, would highly recommend this hotel.

Gion/Kiyomizu Temple
This was by far our favorite hotel in our 2 weeks in Japan. They were very nice and helpful, let us check in early, and made luggage forwarding easy. Plus, the room had lots of great amenities, including a balcony and an incredible tub (the microbubbles were a life saver after a long day of walking!) The face masks were a nice bonus, since my skin did not take to Japan very well. And breakfast was amazing, and served in the room, every morning. On top of all that, the location is amazing: overlooking the river, extremely close to Pontocho, only a few blocks from a major train station.
