Centrally located with easy access to markets and attractions, the accommodation features friendly staff, delicious Japanese breakfast, clean rooms, and relaxing Onsen. However, some may find the design too Japanese-specific.

Our Family of 5 (2 Adults and 3 kids) stayed at the Nishiyama Ryokan in November 2024 and had a fantastic time. The staffs and hosts were very welcoming and warm. The Ryokan itself is beautiful, Cozy and felt like home. The Japanese breakfast served was also delicious. I highly recommend staying at this Ryokan for a wonderful traditional Ryokan experience in Kyoto

My husband and I stayed at the Nishiyama Ryokan for one night during our trip to Japan and we can happily say that it was one of the highlights. The room was beautiful and you get to experience what it's like to sleep in a traditional Japanese room. We got to relax in the Public bath and witness a Koto concert which was definitely a remarkable experience, at the end of the concert I got to play the Koto instrument guided by the musician, making an unforgettable memory. The staff from the hotel were always very nice and helpful, they gifted us a beautiful picture of us with the koto musician which was a very special present from them. At our checkout day we got to have a delicious traditional japanese breakfast, which was a very nice experience, everything was made with care and effort, it was amazing to be able to indulge and get to know what a real japanese breakfast is all about. Moreover we got to experience a matcha tea ceremony and see how it's traditionally made, the matcha was delicious and I got to try to make my own matcha tea. We received a very nice goodbye present on our last day and when we were leaving the hotel rain was pouring and one of the staff ran out to gift us an umbrella, we are very grateful for the service and kindness from the staff. We want to thank Nishiyama san and all the staff for making our stay remarkable, we will for sure recommend the Ryokan to friends and we hope to come back in the future! ありがとう ございました.

Nishiyama Ryokan is a family run Ryokan with such lovely people. The tea ceremony included in your stay is much appreciated, the parents of the owner did our tea ceremony and it was very good. The staff is welcoming and very helpful. You should try the traditional Japanese breakfast it is amazing and so nicely prepared. This is definitely a place to stay for a Ryokan experience.

Great experience altogether but what made especially memorable is the true kindness of the hosts. From the arrival to the presentation of the room, the breakfast and the tea ceremony (do not miss it), everybody was attentive to all our wishes. Not to forget the beautiful garden in the back

I recently stayed at the Nishiyama Ryokan while in Kyoto for three nights, and had an absolutely wonderful time there. The staff were very courteous and welcoming, greeting me with tea while the room was being prepared. They also informed me of any special events (tea ceremonies, a small koto concert) planned for the day. Though I could only speak simple phrases in Japanese, they have English-speaking staff and there were no issues with communication. The room itself was fantastic, well-kept and furnished in traditional Japanese style, yet also with modern amenities. Conveniently close to a metro station near city hall, the location has many options for shopping and meals in the surrounding area. A short train ride connects one to major points of interest in the city, with a transfer at Nijo station getting one to Kyoto station for the Shinkansen. As for breakfast, they provided an option of either Japanese or Western meals, and I was quite impressed with their Japanese selection: a centerpiece dish (boiled tofu one morning, small meats & vegetables with a personal fryer the next) with sides of rice, fruit, salad, egg, fish, and miso soup. Everything was delicious, and the hostess patiently explained any items of importance. Overall I was delighted with my stay with Nishiyama Ryokan, and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for more traditional accommodations.

Great Location. Beautiful property. Loved the public bath and the all of the included amenities (ie tea ceremony). Staff was incredibly friendly and professional. Recommend a taxi to/from Kyoto station.
