Dian Lake Steigenberger Kunming (5 stars)
Our stay at Dian Lake Steigenberger Kunming was truly memorable. All the front desk staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, while the housekeeping team was warm and thoughtful. They went the extra mile to decorate our room for my husband's birthday and even sent us a beautiful and delicious birthday cake — a gesture that made our stay feel extra special.
The Lake View King Room (45m²) was spacious and well-appointed, with a comfortable bed and pillows. We especially loved the balcony overlooking the lake — peaceful and perfect for unwinding.
When we mentioned that our centrally controlled air-conditioning felt a bit warm, 军军 和 Amy immediately offered us an additional room for free, complete with an individual aircon controller so we could adjust the temperature ourselves. This level of care and flexibility was truly impressive.
The hotel is conveniently located within walking distance of several restaurants, including KFC, and there’s a 7-Eleven just nearby for added convenience. The lobby is also grand and tastefully decorated, giving a luxurious first impression.
I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Kunming — it offers both comfort and heartfelt hospitality.

Second time staying here and it’s always a great place to come for a staycation for us. The rooms are beautifully appointed and the service is good. Lots of local restaurants around. Facilities are modern. Definitely a good choice. If you’re a visitor you might find the location a bit far out but with taxi services being so readily available I don’t find it to be a huge issue. It’s about 15 mins away by cab from down town.

Well, it’s a nice enough hotel inside a fabricated former Wanda extended ***** mall. It’s not really close to anything —6-km to Xishan, Dian Lake, 9-10 km to city center. It’s main attraction appears to be an indoor skiing facility, which for anyone that actually skied before, is a 200-ft green circle that they classify as an “expert” run. They had some comic book/anime event going on so tons of people showed up for the weekend dressed up. Beyond the large ***** mall and running/bike track, I’m not sure if it has much more to offer. Personally, I’d advise anyone coming to Kunming to stay either in the city center or go prime spot Dian Lake. This entire concept has a half baked, 3/4 completed feel to it. The hotel is dead & while the place looks modern, it is cheaply built, the gym was unattended (not even sure if it was actually open), and pool hasn’t been open since the Omicron pandemic began in earnest in China. They told me this is a place that Wanda wanted to build up but after running into financial difficulties, it basically got abandoned all but for this area & I suppose they’re trying to monetize it as best they can.
