Ginger House Museum Hotel

I had a perfect stay at the Ginger House Museum hotel in Cochin. Was staying at the King’s chambers room, which is a very spacious (their biggest) room full with antiques and other beautiful furniture. Good working aircon, best shower I had in India on this trip. The hotel itself is stuffed with antiques and is beautiful decorated with a big eye for detail! The dinner at the restaurant, at the water side, was excellent and had many choices. Good quality. But best of all is the staff. Everyone is very hospitable, helpful and kind! Location is within 100 meters of the old Jew town. Love to return here!

What a fabulous and quirky place this is. Full of interesting antiques and decor and the pool and sun area are welcome, in the heart of town. George and Martin who run the front desk and concierge are the most charming gentlemen we have met, on this month long trip around Kerala. The rooms were beautiful and individual, the bathrooms were amazing (especially the Japanese toilet!) with lovely toiletries, but not at all detracting from the unique nature of the building or the space. Jew Town is immediately outside your door for a little wander. If we have any constructive criticism it is about the restaurant…lovely though it is, and caring though the staff are, we found that at dinner one evening they were completely monopolised by a table of 12, who kept ordering as they ate. The net result was that our order clearly sat for some time before being brought out, and was quite cool. We could see that it was not a fault as such, just that the waiting staff were overwhelmed. Perhaps when they take large reservations, they need to factor that into their general service. I should say, that the food was pleasant.

Thanks to the amazing George at the Ginger House Museum Hotel who made my last week in India a magical mystery tour. They only had 4 nights available so I was at a quandary of what to do with my first 4 nights. I started scouting around but George came out of the blue to the rescue. Before I knew it he had sorted out 3 perfect nights by the lake at Kumarakom and one lovely night on boat in the backwaters, all the taxi transfers and all for a very good price. But the incredible service didnt stop there, once I got to the fabulous hotel I was greeted by the owner Manju and the lovely Martin. The concern and care the team offered was amazing. This boutique hotel is exquisitely decorated with many of the antiques from the museum but is an eclectic mix of modern with even an electric toilet and an electric shower in the ensuite bathroom! Modern glass window from the bathroom to the King size bedroom *they don't seem to have anything small! For me there is no where else quite like this hotel. Room 101 on the ground floor is the biggest finest, hotel suite ever! Nothing is too much trouble, they organized tickets for a cultural dance show, plus the tuktuk to see me safely there and back. Right in the heart of the Jewish Quarter with all its lovely shops, yet totally quiet at night.

Everyone was nice, especially Georges at the reception. My stay was exceptional, with lots of positives. Mr Majnu the owner, was there every morning to ensure that everything was going on smoothly. The cuisine was one of the best in Cochi. Do try the seafood platter! Also do visit the hotel which is also a museum full of history. Overall i give the hotel a 5/5

You begin to run out of happy words to describe this hotel. From our first interaction with George, the manager, it was all positive. Staff were friendly, very helpful and always available. The hotel itself is unique, having the best of the owners considerable collection of antiques. We had three rooms, all beautiful, all different. In a concession to modernity, they even had Japanese style toilets. Food was excellent, unlike most places around, you could get a beer and the restaurant staff were great. From start to finish, this was a joyous, happy experience. We could not recommend it highly enough.

What an incredible experience and beautiful hotel from the moment we arrived. George at reception made us feel as if we were royalty. An explanation was given how the hotel became and where all the facilities were. We were then shown to our stunning room, furnished beautifully and spotlessly clean. Room service was quick, efficient and very polite. The breakfast in the morning was exceptional, but in my opinion a little on the large side for most people to be able to finish. We also met the owner a very humble *** who guided us through the breakfast with what pairings we should use to eat our full Indian breakfast. The food from the restaurant in the evening was also very good. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone
