VE Hotels Kars BEYLERBEYİ Sarayi

The intention, to convert an old shell of a palace to a modern upscale hotel, failed in the execution. While the architect in charge of design may have tried to instill a medieval atmosphere, it didn't work. The main foyer was paved with uneven slabs of stone which made walking and rolling luggage difficult. Covering it with carpets didn't improve the situation. Contemporary palaces covered their floors with smooth wood or tile or flat alabaster slabs. The rooms were attractive and well appointed but suffered from poor construction and upkeep. The toilet seat in my room was not attached to the commode, and the hotel didn't even bother to send someone to fix it after I immediately notified the front desk. Another person in our party had the doorknob to the bathroom come off in her hand. All of this in an new hotel! Also, the front steps had a poorly installed carpet that was not secured and presented a safety hazard. Furthermore, there was a "problem" with staffing so our busload of 16 had to handle our own luggage, and there was only one tiny elevator so only two people could use it if they had luggage. No one answered my phone calls to the front desk, and no one was available to do simple room repairs if one bothered to search for the "manager" at reception. The only positive thing I can say is that the internet connection was fast.
