Hotel Topaz

This is my first time visiting Topaz Kandy, and it was our 5th trip as a family. It was a pleasure to share this feedback. From the reception we received a very warm welcome by the welcome host (unfortunately I don’t remember her name ). The boys at reception looked very busy , but after check-in the girl who took us to the room was very kind and clearly explained all the hotel and room facilities. First impression was amazing. The buffet was fantastic with lots of choices and very tasty food. The chefs were also very kind. Some of the restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful. What impressed me most was how some of the chefs and staff make sure my daughter had enough food and that she enjoyed it. On the last dinner they even kept asking me about her food to make sure she was happy – that really touched me. Thank you all. also want to thank the housekeeping team – the girl and gentleman who asked if they could clean my room made me feel the real hospitality. And a big thanks to whoever cleaned my room and made the nice bed decorations. My daughter was so excited after seeing it. She is just 28 months old but she really enjoyed it a lot. However, I was disappointed with two things during my stay. First, when my daughter was eating, she didn’t want to sit on the baby chair because it was uncomfortable. So she kept her plate on the chair and started eating. I apologized to one of the staff in a black jacket and bow tie, but he simply said “careful, the plate can break.” Instead of saying that, it would have been better if he had offered a kids’ plate. Second, at the last dinner I asked one of the restaurant staff for just a very small scoop of ice cream for my daughter, and the reply was “sorry, you have to order portion wise.” We didn’t want a full portion because she only wanted a little. ( I dont think that if you give small scoop can make big difference in your business.) I felt emotional intelligence was missing in that moment. Overall, everything went well. Very comfortable & spacious room. The pools looks so welcoming, though it is a walk down a small hill (with steps). Dinner and breakfast had a wide variety of food options to cater to everyone. Drinks at the bar was reasonably priced and they had a live violinist. Enjoyed our stay here, will definitely come back again and ensure there's time to enjoy the pool!

The Check in was smooth and rooms were comfortable. Dinner and Breakfast was good but not much selection for vegetarian. The Check out was worst, they took away our luggage which we felt was routine but was not delivered to us at the gate. After waiting almost 30 minutes, we approached the reception who just recited that it's on way. When yelling after almost an hour, the manager came out and informed that the travel agency has not transferred the balance payment and as such we cannot checkout. Ridiculous, we had smooth checkin, couldn't they contact the agent for balance payment earlier. Wouldn't recommend to anyone.

Staff was really friendly, especially at the reception. For the rest: the bathroom had a lot of mold!!, the rooms and restaurant where not clean, the food was the worst we had in Sri Lanka, not a lot of healthy options at breakfast, the swimming pool was not well maintained and the water was not even clean. Maximum a bad 3 star hotel, for every Western Tourist: there are better options in the area…

Staff was very prompt and helpful when there was some miscommunication with the rooms. Everyone was very friendly and hospitable at breakfast & dinner too. The rooms were older as keys are still being used as locks instead of key cards…

Really nice hotel, very good service, we had a amazing stay. The views are really nice. Everything was great. Hope to be back one day!
