Firstly, this isn’t a “boutique hotel”. I’ve stayed at plenty of boutique hotels across the world and this doesn’t measure up. At check-in the reception staff were great. There was a problem with understanding English by some staff, but there was one guy at the reception who was probably the best asset of the hotel. Room I was given overlooked a primary/junior school and the noise from the playground was terrible. I returned to reception and was given a quieter room immediately. The second room I was given was extremely poor in terms of cleanliness. The furniture is ‘extremely’ old. I’m very tolerant of different standards of hygiene at hotels across the world. After 5 nights at this property I woke to see a cockroach crawling on the bedside table, and another on the floor. At this point I decided to completely lift the bed because I had a very strong feeling that the room was much dirtier than first thought. The photos of under the bed are shocking. Also, the walls are covered with dirty splash marks as if a bottle of dark liquid had exploded everywhere. Things like this happen, but that’s why cleaner’s who work to a regular high standard are so important. This property is in a good(ish) location, but after having spoken with the owner whilst there, it was obvious that this hotel is just a cash cow. There is absolutely no evidence of any effort to improve or invest in the property. I was so happy to check out two days early. I was refunded without any argument or difficulty at all. I moved to a MUCH better hotel close by which was cheaper and superb. Only sad not to have checked out sooner. I hope that the owner sees this review and uses this information to better instruct hotel cleaners. The work of cleaners should be supervised and checked regularly. This extremely poor cleaning is only happening because the staff know there is no checking of their work by management, or, it’s possible that the cleaning staff know that the owner doesn’t care about cleanliness.
