Welcome was good. The reception staff were friendly and accommodated our request for a river facing room. Overall the service was just okay for it's price. For its price, I feel that parking should be included. A limited parking that can be reserved at $36 was offered when I called in a day before as well as a free parking further down the hotel that is not guaranteed. We availed of the additional $36, this includes a valet service. The hotel room design was as expected of Novotel hotels, but it was not up to it's best standard. The remote control and kettle in our room was dusty. Amenities needed to be requested, I did this in advance during booking. But there were no slippers in the room upon arrival except for the 4 towels requested. Breakfast buffet was just the usual fare.
The hotel is about 2.5km from the Hamilton train station. We took a taxi from the train station, and the driver charged us NZD25. My booking confirmation said that the check out time was 11:00, but the hotel insisted it should be 10:00 which is fine. The booking confirmation clearly say that breakfast was free, but the hotel tried to charge 13 pp. Hamilton is a nice place which is close to Waitomo and Hobbiton.
The front desk is on the second floor and it took me a long time to find it. The pretty lady at the front desk was very nice. Although I didn't fully understand what she said, her enthusiastic smile diluted the fatigue along the way. There are many restaurants around the hotel, even several Chinese restaurants. The bathroom is a little small, but there is nothing wrong with it.

The hotel is in a good location, close to places to eat and shop, and can be reached on foot. The Indians at the front desk are very friendly. The hotel rooms are clean and large, and there are ample parking spaces.
The only problem is that the sound insulation in the hotel rooms is too poor. We live on the first floor, and we can hear the upstairs room taking a shower, filling the bathtub, and even ”exhausting” clearly.
If you try to check in on the second floor, it may be better.
It was convenient to watch rugby because it was a 5-minute walk from the rugby stadium. It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the center of the city. The security around the area was not good, but it was a level that could be walked even at night.
Our stay was really great. After a few little tweaks every thing settled in. The only issue we felt needing attention urgently was the....Ice-boxes ...in the fridge.
We would certainly recommend the Ramada Hotel to all.

Huge rooms, the biggest I've had in New Zealand, however the room was sparsely furnished so they could have made better use of the space which was effectively wasted. For instance there were no chairs to sit in. A pair of chairs with a side table would really make a difference. Its a historic hotel but very much 'faded grandeur', however I knew when I booked that the hotel wasn't the most modern and that was ok as I wanted that historic feel. It's not everyday that you stay inthe same hotel that Queen Elizabeth did (in 1953). The bed was comfortable, the shower hot (a huge bathroom too) and the staff were helpful. Great location right in the city centre too.
good point
・The staff are very kind.
・The kitchen was easy to use, with seasonings etc.
・The common living space was spacious and comfortable.
Points that caught my attention
・The building was old overall.
・There were times when Wifi could not be connected.
・It was a three-person room, but the spacing between the beds was narrow, making it feel a little cramped.
・White house dust on the bed? It had something like this on it. I fell in love, but it kept accumulating.
I stayed here for three nights and was quite satisfied with all the room facilities, except for the poor sound insulation. I could clearly hear the sound of car engines outside when I was sleeping in the middle of the night. Maybe it was because of the engines of the cars themselves, but it still caused my poor sleep quality. If you are someone who is sensitive to sound and want to stay here, you may want to consider it.
In addition, on the afternoon of the second day of my stay, because there was a ”Do Not Disturb” sign on my room door, the housekeeping staff should not have come in to clean. However, I don't know if one of the housekeeping staff didn't see the sign or for some other reason, but she swiped the card to open the door after knocking on the door three times (I didn't answer the door when she knocked because I was in the bathroom and couldn't respond). At first I thought it was the working habit of people here in New Zealand, but the more I thought about it, the weirder it got. So the next day I happened to meet another housekeeping staff and confirmed with her. She said that if there is a ”Do Not Disturb” sign on the guest's door, they will not open the door to enter, but will only take photos for record. The housekeeping staff was also surprised that this happened, and apologized to me on behalf of the housekeeping staff who opened my door, and said that they would report this matter to their manager again, so apart from these two things, I was quite satisfied with this stay.
