MEININGER Hotel Hamburg City Center

Absolutely would not recommend staying at Meininger Hotel Hamburg. My flight was cancelled due to a strike at Hamburg Airport, and I informed the hotel a full day in advance. Despite my efforts, the staff showed a complete lack of empathy and refused to work with me. They wouldn't even consider postponing my reservation. Instead, they cancelled my booking altogether through the app (knowing I wouldn't be there) - a tactic that left me worse during a stressful situation. If you encounter unexpected travel disruptions, expect little to no understanding or flexibility from this hotel.

We travel regularly all over the world and it is really challenging to find a comfortable place to stay for 5 people. This hotel has it figured out. Cleaning rooms, friendly staff, game room for kids, play area with books, quiet neighborhood close to S Bahn. We can highly recommend.

The rooms are decent, the service overall ok. I’m leaving a 1 because I had to deal with Samantha, Chiara miserable attitudes. Pleas educate these two or hire competent people, they behave with customers in very incorrect ways. Two other people I met during my stay also complained about them.

We stayed at the hotel at the end of July 2022. We had a room on the 6th floor so we had a very nice view over the city. Our family room was a bit 'hostel-style' but spacious as we were only four people and the room could accommodate eight persons. It was clean and toilet and bathroom were separated, which is always convenient. The hotel was quiet and no street noise was audible in our room. Friendly staff. Ideas for improvements: it was hot during our stay so airco would have been great. Also, the curtains were not darkening the room at all, so we woke up early. Metro station Altona is close-by (and there's a great supermarket on the way from the hotel to the station) but a bit run-down and dirty.

There really is a Meininger spirit it seems. Have been to a Meininger Hotel in Amsterdam and found the same level of quality and fun spirit in the one in Hamburg. I like that it is a very inclusive environment, crowd- and generation-wise. The large and colourful room suited perfectly our family, and the common areas were filled with activities for all ages. Private parking was a must for us as we were in transit with all our luggage.

As a hotel, it is VFM. I was there for 4 nights and my stay was nice. I liked the room decoration, as it was something out of the ordinary. The room was clean, and the breakfast, even though it didn't offer cooked food, it had a lot of variety and worth its money. In addition, it has a public kitchen, where you can cook your own food. The hotel staff was very kind and fun to hang out with. Also, very helpful regarding the places to visit and the the public transportation options. The hotel is located near the railway station of Altona, which is great as you have easy access to public transportation. All in all, I enjoyed my stay there and, if I visit Hamburg again, I would like to stay there again.
