明治楼12号室。 広い。 広さで価格が決まるようだ。 柱などは，きれいに洗うか塗ってほしい。 庭石も洗ってほしい。 長年料理が評判だった料理長は，高齢で引退し，現在の料理長は，２か月前に交代した人だと言う。 薄味ではないが，まあまあ美味しく仕上がっている。 牛はやや味が弱かったかな。 総じてミシュランレベルではない。 中居さんは，とてもあいそがよく，正直な人だった。 高級な部屋にふさわしい人かな。 大浴場も部屋の風呂も快適だったが，真綿感はかんじなかった。 部屋風呂が良ければ，値打ちな昭和楼でいいかな。

箱根湯本温泉の中でも老舗の部類(間も無く創業400年 2025年)に入ります。早川沿いにあり、湯本駅からも徒歩10分圏内で行けます。明治初期の建物には歴史を感じることもでき、当時の要人が泊まった痕跡もあります。洋風建築の創成期で和風建築の大工さんが洋風の良さと和風の伝統とを加味した150年前の意気込みも伝わってきます。温泉も実に滑らかで柔らかく長湯も可能です。惜しむらくは、部屋に椅子が無いので畳だけでのくつろぎしかありません。お料理も早川港で水揚げされた新鮮な魚たちで満足しました。
