i really love to explore so i just love the location since it needs to go up for a bit from the bus station.. overall service +ramu (the friendly dog) is best 🫶.. my only concern is the cold toilet and bed.. but i guess its just worth the money we paid plus its winter and was snowing when we stay...oh! i forgot ..i tried the little onsen./ofuro .. i love it since its natural !!😄😄

A very pleasant visit to kind, simple and peaceful people. I like a lot the location of the homestay, out of the center, up hill, need to move your ass to reach it. The hottest onsen I’ve been haha but also the most comfy as it’s private. I miss Rum already, what a nice dog, same as all the staff. A really worthy stop in Hakone with local people who feel real in an area full of tourism. Thanks a lot for taking care of my bags after my check in, those gestures are the ones that really count!

The location was about a km away from Kowakidani Sta. Not really far but the recommended path by Google Maps (at least to me) was along the mountain highway. It was rainy and i was walking alone at night. I sometimes pass by vehicles on the road 🥲
I was late for checkin (past 22:00) so I had my Japanese friend call the hostel. They said it's okay to come until 23:00 as the hostel cafe is also open until then.
The bedspace in the mixed dorm was spacious enough and the ladder for the upper beds was sturdy. *The restroom in the main hostel is better maintained than the one in the annex.
The hostel restaurant is very nice and they let me stay for a bit after checkout as the rain was pouring that day. The owner's dog is named Rum 🥹

Cozy little hut with onsen! Located upslope, difficult to manage travel time as the last bus end pretty early. Without a hakone pass each bus ride can cost 600-700 yen.
First night was great. 2nd night was disruptive with loud snores from another travellers🥺
There should be a weight limit on those sleeping in the upper bunk too.
Good for 2 days short trip in Hakone

Own onsen, cute dog, but very poor conditions regarding cleanliness. The poorest so far in Japan (been here for a month).

Super cute guesthouse tucked away in a quaint mountain neighborhood of Hakone. This adorable and clean home has bright and lively shared spaces, where you will find happy guests chatting away in the cafe/bar.
The hosts are around 24/7 if you need anything and at the cafe or close by all day. They are super friendly and ready to help with your needs. This place is really designed like a shared home and feels cozy and welcoming!
The location is really convenient with a small shrine, little shops, bus stops, 7/11, and train station 5-7 min walk away but be sure you know which direction you want to go… the roads branch off like a tree (you can check directions with the hosts first).
Loved Rum (host dog) and loved my stay!

The host was really helpful alongside his assistant Rum the Dog - so friendly. Loved the Onsen, really appreciate the service rendered me during my stay. The host showed great knowledge of attractions and discounts - a definite must stay and will return very soon.
