A place to relax, a place to recharge. Setsugetsuga was chosen based on family recommendations, no regrets on this choice! Food was great, snacks provided, drinks, ice cream and a very fulfilling dinner. My daughters enjoyed the private bath in the room. Me and my wife enjoyed the private onsen to relax and soak in nature’s bath. Definitely will return to Hakone and stay in Setsugetsuga again. Managed to see Mount Fuji during the day trip as well!

Amazing place with amazing staff! Facilities are just absolutely amazing and the food is just so authentic and tasty. I also want to say that I have tattoos so, I wasn't able to enter the public onsens but the privates and the one in my room barely made me miss it. Also, souvenir shop is great and the yukatas that they lend you are just absolutely lovely.

Decent onsen, including both private and public ones and both indoor and outdoors. Many amenities (snacks). We had their kaiseki meals for 3 nights. It tasted fine but unfortunately since after the first meal, we have been having bad stomach issues and have had to use the bathroom every two hours.

I haven’t stayed in this kind of hotel before, so I don’t have much to compare it to — but our experience was great. We did the typical sightseeing route around Hakone. While you can get closer to the Mount Fuji, it takes more time and an earlier start. The hotel had everything we needed, so we didn’t even need to go to a store. Breakfast and dinner were both filling and had a good variety. The rooms were clean, spacious, and had a nice view of the station and mountains. The hotel is right next to the station, which made getting around very easy — and the trains didn’t bother us at all, the sound was even kind of calming. The public onsen baths were excellent, so we didn’t actually need a private bath in the room.

This is one of the best ryokan I have ever stayed in. Firstly, the location is right next to Gora Station, less than five minutes walk, which makes a big difference if you've come from, say, Tokyo to Hakone. Additionally, the rooms were comfortable and the private baths/balcony feature available for all rooms is lovely. The Double Western room we stayed in had the best of both worlds with the traditional Japanese bath and a comfortable bed (while futon are fine, we preferred a bed). Finally, the samue monk work clothes the hotel lends you to wear as sleepwear is so comfortable, my only complaint is that there are none available for purchase. Also, the hot spring bath facilities were great. We only used the shared not public ones, but they were clean, beautifully designed, and well ventilated (which is important for not getting overheated). Travellers take note: a lot of restaurants in the area close after 7pm, and the dinner set is on the pricier side, so best to plan your dinner accordingly. The restaurants we did try (notably an udon/soba place) was very good. And the nearby shuttle to Pola Art Museum/13 min from Hakone Open Air Art Museum make this a good hotel for art-lovers. The staff are friendly and helpful too.

Was my first time at a ryokan and Setsugetsuka was the right choice! There were multiple choices for onsens, between the private onsen on the balcony, 3 private onsens on the property, and a public onsen. Dinner and breakfast were amazing. Late night free ramen as well!

The location is excellent, just 3 - 5 minutes' walk from the train station, making travel easy. However, facilities were so-so. The in-room bath had water stains, so we didn't use it. Dining was underwhelming, like a basic tour package, lacking quality. Value for money was poor, perhaps due to peak season and location. Overall, it has potential but needs improvement.

It was a good location that right next to the train station.however I think it will still be good to have a shuttle bus offerings to main train station / hot touristic spots. The dinner timeslot is 17:30 or 19:30, however, even we tried to book the time right after check in, the slots for later session were fully booked. Service there was not very personalized. But in generally I really like the onsens, they have one in my room, one private onsen you can walk in if its not occupied and 2 more public ones. I love the main one with outdoor onsen! Also love the indoor one too with multiple options :) Food was quite good and very fresh. I enjoyed my stay and would come back! Just hope the service and personalization part get better in the future.
