Sholeo Lodges Los Gigantes

Lovely clean accommodation, friendly staff. Drinks cheap enough, €3 beer, €2 coke, €5 cocktails. ROOMS; These were plenty big enough to suit our needs. The beds were comfy, lovely shower. Charging points next to bed. Keypad to enter your room. Free WiFi & safe. Hair drier in bathroom. FOOD; We only had breakfast, which was was plentiful & fresh & something to suit everyone, although no sausages or beans. A few of us thought it was strange that you had to clear up after yourself, not that I’d ever leave a mess. Never stopped anywhere & had to clear our stuff away? Only had lunch at the lodges, on our last day for ease, its was nice enough. LOCAL RESTAURANTS; We chose to eat out every night & had some lovely & delicious meals at the local restaurants. They all add a service charge though. POOL; Lovely & clean. Steps either side to enter the pool with ease. Small children’s pool attached to the main pool. Plenty of sunbeds, not the comfiest due to no cushions, but nobody was reserving them & not using them. Life guard present at all times. Pool towels available for a refundable deposit. Good DJ playing some great tunes on the Friday afternoon/evening. We enjoyed our stay & don't have complaints as such, just observations. BEACH; Local sandy beach was lovely, €4 sunbeds/parasol. The beach was about a 5-10 minute walk away. SUPERMARKET; This was literally next door which stocked some lovely fresh bread rolls/croissants. we brought some ham & cheese to have with them, washed down with beer & Vodka. Fridge in our room for snacks & drinks. Found the whole area clean. Lodges & surroundings were beautifully kept. Quiet & relaxing, can see why it’s popular. For €15 you could, if available, have your room for longer. Ours wasn’t & they do not provide a shower room which again, we found strange. We had a night flight, so was by the pool all day, but had nowhere to shower! Had to freshen up in the disabled toilet using the sink!
Gran Melia Palacio de Isora

We first visited this hotel 12 years ago with our boys when they were teenagers, and we had such a wonderful experience back then. Naturally, we were excited to return this year with our sons and their partners, hoping to relive some of those fond memories. Unfortunately, this visit left us extremely disappointed, and it’s hard not to feel let down by how much the hotel has changed. The hotel still looks nice, but sadly, it now feels like a case of style over substance. What once made this place special seems to have faded over the years, and it’s just not what it used to be. The staff were polite and seemed to be trying their best, but they were clearly overwhelmed and understaffed. This had a huge impact on our experience, as it led to long waits and an overall lack of attention to detail. For a hotel that is supposed to be 5-star, the service fell far below that standard. On our first night, we tried the buffet and were shocked by how poor the food was. It reminded us more of something you’d find at a motorway service station, than in a luxury hotel. Unfortunately, this set the tone for the rest of our stay. Each morning, we found ourselves queuing for breakfast because there weren’t enough staff to clear the tables. When they finally got around to it, we noticed that food from the previous guests was often swept onto the floor in a rush. The quality of the breakfast itself was very disappointing—lukewarm, poorly cooked, and honestly, not very appetising. The sausages were dry and tasteless, and the bacon was unlike anything we’ve had before, and not in a good way. We ended up eating out most of the time, which was a relief. The rooms were also not up to the standard we were expecting. The furniture was quite tired and dated, and our air conditioning unit leaked multiple times. Despite having it looked at on three separate occasions, the issue was never properly resolved. Overall, this visit was a big letdown, especially considering how much we loved this hotel in the past. We understand that things change, but it’s hard not to feel disappointed with how far the standards have dropped. Unfortunately, we won’t be coming back again.
The Ritz-Carlton Tenerife, Abama

My Mum and I stayed at the Ritz-Carlton for 4 nights as part of her birthday celebration and it was perfect! The rooms are so comfortable and the bedding is sublime! The team who work there are so fantastic - nothing is too much trouble and ever so helpful. There are beautiful towels by the pool which don’t slip down and you get two as standard so not everything is wet when you get out! There is even suncream at the pool so you don’t have to bring your own! Wifi is brilliant throughout the hotel. Cocktails are beautiful, about 17-18 euros each but worth every penny! Absolutely delicious. My only criticism was the lack of food choices in the hotel by the pool - not a huge amount to choose from, very fish based (I don’t eat fish) and the service was a little slow for drinks but that could be the time of year. But there was fabulous popcorn cones and fruit kebabs which were shared in the morning which was great. When planning you’re trip, just be aware that there is nothing around without a taxi from this hotel - there’s some lovely local places nearby but you will need to get in a taxi. The beach area is incredibly well set up - the little train takes you there, there’s a full bar and restaurant, toilets, suncream and sun loungers. Overall it was a brilliant stay and would recommend the hotel for sure - would be even better once the refurbishments are done and there are a few more pools and the restaurant with a view is open again! Thanks for a lovely stay!
