The White Lion

Hotel was advertised very wrongful as ,location is OK, but Bar below with very dirty rooms, smell of urine, alcohol and a room with common/ detached bath rooms , we just entered at 1st floor after payment and returned back to ground floor in next 5 minutes. Very very dirty rooms, in fact don't need to put on *********** or trip.com. We changed our mind ,booked room in Premier Inn, 1.5 miles away at a price difference of only 5 pounds and hell of difference in amenities. They refused to return/ refund any money, even not 50% , rather threatened me to leave the hotel/ bar quickly/ quietly. I never imagined I am in UK 🇬🇧 hotels, rather a backward country, for just 50 pounds they were so furious, in the end I never ever recommend anyone to stay there ,in same price you will get Room in Premier Inn,travelogue nearby with attached bathroom.

I stayed for one night, the check in is only after 16:30 when the bar opens. I had a room on the road side, which was hot and stuffy. They provided a fan which was noisy! I thought the shower facilities were scruffy and in need of updating. The shared toilet at my end of the hotel ran out of toilet paper. There is a Chinese takeaway next door and a convenience store on the other side. It’s about a 10 min walk into the center of the town. To be fair I have stayed in better places for less. I couldn’t recommend it as I didn’t see any positives.

We went for lunch and the food was very good, including the dessert The staff were friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed our lunch. The atmosphere was good and the seating was comfortable. We didn't use the accommodation as we were staying elsewhere.

It is tired, desperately in need of decorating and updating. Very basic. There appeared to be hairs in one of the beds. Extremely hot despite fans being provided, can’t imagine what it would be like in the height of summer. Appreciated there being coffee and tea making facilities, although kettle looked pretty grotty. Not somewhere we’d choose to stay again.

Room was ok but no extractor fan for shower and taps full of limescale. No rooms for disabled people so had to climb up set of stairs. As pub was only open for certain amount of times we had to go down the fire escape to get in/out of the building and you can imagine what it would be like for a disabled person having to carry luggage up and down wet stairs. Had party on and music blaring out gone midnight so could hear it all night long and every word!
