Having just stayed at the Oakwood Hotel on Saturday 2nd November I contacted the hotel and Bookings.com as having an issue I would always prefer to raise it with the venue, giving them the option to resolve, as opposed to leaving a negative review. The hotel offered me a £15 credit to stay again although agreeing with the below. When you enter the hotel reception you are met with a horrid smell of damp, which was very nauseating. On check in we were met by a pleasant member of staff, who checked us in and was very thorough. We had been allocated room 30, I had previously emailed and requested a walk in shower due to mobility problems however was advised this was not possible due to all showers being over the bath. Unfortunately room 30 had the hardest bed, I don’t even think it was the bed but the age of the mattress possibly with zero support. I did return to reception and advised I would not be able to remain in that room due to the bed. I was then led into 3 other rooms and given the chance to check the beds, these being rooms 1,2 & 3. I selected 2 as the best from a bad bunch in all honesty. The rooms are exceptionally dated, I appreciate there is not much that can be done in regards to this unless it's a refit but general maintenance can always help. Room 2 had a damp smell also, the bathroom furniture was stained and the carpet around the edges of the bedroom was covered in dust. In the corridor there is mould showing and you can see the damp in the wall. I suffer with severe dust mite allergy, so that coupled with the not so pleasant night sleep left me feeling rather unsatisfied. We had friends some to stay at the hotel the same night so we could go out (Both half way between Windsor/Birmingham) and they also had an awful nights sleep due to the mattress and pillows in their room. Sad really as the hotel is in a great location and may well have a higher occupancy rate of the rooms were addressed and most definitely the damp! Liam on reception was a welcoming, pleasant member of staff and all staff we saw during our stay were happy and said hello.
