Short notice to find somewhere to stay for the NY and had some concerns about some of the negative reveiws I found on Trip Adviser. Regardless, road map in hand I made it to the Royal Hotel in Girvan and was happy with what I found. After staying there and looking back on the reveiws, it appears that most customers expext to stay in the London Ritz for B&B money, then because their delusions of grandeur (due to financial constraints) are not met, they feel they have the right to condem and villify the owner and his establishment, whom, personally for me, was warm welcoming and made sure I had everything I wanted. My room was very clean, bed was comfy and the sheets smelt nice from the laundry, so I had exactly what I wanted ....somewhere to sleep, and at £3.70 a pint somewhere to deffinatley drink. During my stay the kitchen was not open but I was made aware of this before arrival, as I checked on the availiability of a "scottish Fry up" as they mentioned that a continental breakfast was availiable in the room, so no problems there. If you want new and sparkling, and obsequious staff, then the Royal is not the place for you. Pay Bigger Hotel bills else where, then you can complain, that you have had your monies worth.
