Ghent Marriott Hotel

The location is fantastic, right on the water and you can walk out the door to explore Ghent. The hotel itself is fine, not the most modern/ nicest Marriott I have ever stayed at and certainly not the worst. Parts definitely seem dated. There is a parking garage under the hotel- and you can park there for a nightly fee. The service was not good. When I checked in there was absolutely no recognition of my Ambassador Elite status and no benefits of that status were explained to me. I asked about a suite upgrade, and the girl that was checking me in was fine but another girl (long straight dark brown hair) yelled over from the other side of the counter in a very rude way saying she took care of it already (cutting off the other associate). Our room was not a suite- so she didn't take care of it. Then I asked about a late check out and she yelled over again saying she put it in the system. When I asked if our keys would continue to work she looked at me like I was an ***** and said she took care of it. Which she didn't- we had to get our cards re-keyed the next morning, and they had no note in the system that we previously asked for a late checkout. It felt completely unprofessional- if the other associate wanted to answer my questions or manage my check in process, she could have easily done it by walking over and having a professional and pleasant conversation with me not by yelling over and cutting off the person who was helping me. It felt like she was annoyed that I was asking about the perks that come with the my Marriott status, not welcoming of a new guest to the hotel. Neither the girl who claimed to have taken care of everything, or the girl checking us in explained anything about perks, and I felt so frustrated (about the rude interaction) when they handed me my keys that I didn't even ask. I walked up to the desk after and explained the situation to a male associate standing there who could not have been more kind, apologetic and welcoming. There is no lounge, so he gave us two drink coupons, and said a buffet breakfast at the restaurant was included instead. They also mentioned that the mini fridge was included, but it only had like 3 small bottles total in it (one water, one soda and one beer) so it was not a very big perk. Overall, Ghent was beautiful and the hotel is in a great location. I would stay here again with a very low bar set for service from the front desk.

Novotel Gent Centrum

Ghent|0.48km from city centre
A very disappointing stay at Novotel Centrum. Pros - Location. You can't get a better location. Close to everything including lots of eateries at your doorstep. Cons: Customer service - the customer service was the worst I've experienced in a long time. The staff were disinterested and rude. We checked in and I came down to advise that there were no baby beds in the room even though we had requested them well in advance and in all correspondence with the hotel before arriving. I was greeted with 'Hi, are you checking in' by the same person who checked me in no more than five minutes earlier. I would have accepted this but it happened again the next time I approached the reception desk. It was not a busy period for the hotel. I was rudely told off for asking again when I came downstairs to double check a second baby bed was indeed coming as only one had been delivered to the room in the time between first enquiring. I also made another enquiry during our stay and the staff member said they would provide me the answer but never got back to me. Room The room itself was dark and very old. I didn't want to spend any time in there. The rooms haven't been updated for a very long time and due to this the room felt dusty and not very clean. When the baby beds did arrive, one was in good condition and the other was in a terrible state. The material keeping the bed together was ripped in a number of places and the mattress itself was basically split in half due to being folded up so many times. I understand that baby beds are complementary, but this was not acceptable. When the rooms were cleaned, they only did a very surface level clean. Things weren't replaced and not all the rubbish was collected. Amenities We paid for breakfast and there were enough options. The bar had a good selection of Belgium beers on offer. There is a swimming pool outside that looks maintained but there is no safety fence around it so if you're outside in the bar area or in fact anywhere in the entrance area of the hotel you have to watch your children as they may accidentally walk into the pool.

Hotel Carlton

Ghent|2.01km from city centre
The hotel is very close to Ghent St. Peter’s station, which can be reached by walking about four to five hundred meters. This side is about two kilometers away from the Saint-Michel Bridge, the castle, and the cathedral. You can take a small train ticket or walk directly. The proprietress of the hotel is very enthusiastic. When we check in, she will give us a map and guide book to tell us what is interesting. There is also a handsome guy at the front desk who is very nice~ This hotel has an elevator. Although the elevator is not big, it can accommodate two people and two large suitcases, which is very convenient. The hotel has a total of six floors. We live on the fifth floor. The windows of the room are very wide. You can see the roofs of some houses in Ghent, which is also a flavor. The room is more spacious than the average room in Europe, but the lighting is a bit dim, and there are fewer charging sockets. You need to be smart (because the built-in adapter can only transfer two sockets, and the wiring board that comes with it is three. Yes, so it's embarrassing...) In many places in Europe, bathrooms are very small, and this is no exception, but the bathroom is quite clean, and that's it when I am used to living. The hotel rooms have free mineral water and soda water, as well as tea and chocolate. It is very thoughtful. Unlike some hotels in Belgium, they don’t even have mineral water... The only dissatisfaction is that there are no toothbrushes and slippers, and the toilet tank in the bathroom of the room we live in has been leaking, which is a bit noisy. Another thing I want to complain about is, do Belgians like soft beds? The several hotels I stayed in this trip were all too soft bedding... For people like me who are used to sleeping with a little harder bedding and a poor waist, it is really not friendly. 110 Euro is still a bit expensive, but it is close to the station, the location is good, the hotel room is quite big, it can still be recommended.

Residence Inn Ghent

Ghent|4.02km from city centre
Had a standard room for 1 night in the modern Marriott hotel in Ghent. Nicely decorated lobby, futuristic-looking hall where the sleeping quarters are located in a timeless, sleek and modern style, as well as the bedroom and bathroom. Mini market for a late snack in the lobby, nice addition as the location is not near a shopping street. All rooms were clean and fresh. Lovely bed (firm, slightly too soft mattress, good suspension), bedroom was warm, slightly too warm during the night (down duvet), counter top with built-in fridge, coffee maker, bar available. Darkened windows, tilting window present, excellent sound insulation. A suitable and affordable room for a short and longer stay. Minuses: Missed in the bathroom storage space at a higher position than under the sink (for placing a toiletry bag (2 people), kids / hooks to hang your clothes. Space on the side of the window a bit too narrow (walk sideways) . Staff: were friendly and attentive. Improving the communication of the female employee on arrival (check-in) and on departure a male employee may direct the communication (explanation, payment of deposit) to the person who reserved and paid for the room (woman) and not to the male guest, who stood at a distance from the counter. Impersonal and not customer friendly. Location (near highway, stadium) is reasonably accessible by car to the center of Ghent, +/- 16 minutes. Parking: plenty of parking. Too bad that it is paid (€19 for one night) in a closed parking in a rural area. I found it useful to use a code to drive in and out, which can be obtained at the desk at check-in.

Very nice hotel in the centre of Gent. Building in classical style with modern elements. Great breakfast buffet with careful service. Check-in was ok, check-in time at 15:00 unfortunately was not complied with. But we have been pleasantly upgraded, so waiting has been worth it. Most beautiful are the rooms with balcony to the indoor courtyard. The restaurant had closed. The drinks in the indoor courtyard were very good, the service in the evening a little slow. You are quickly walking from the hotel in the historic city centre. Gym and pool small but maintained. A great hotel in general.

Erasmus Hotel
4/538 Reviews
Overall, this hotel disappointed me greatly. I had chosen it partly because it was advertised as being convenient to public transit. Not so. The #1 tram, which my reservation confirmation mentioned as an easy way to reach the hotel, has been out of service for a while now and will remain so for the next four years while the city renovates the route. Yet the hotel's final communication with me, just before my arrival, failed to mention this. This caused me no end of trouble. But it was also typical; I never felt that I was in a hospitable hotel where anyone cared about my comfort or convenience or even whether I enjoyed my stay. The proprietor, who does everything from making the beds to setting out the breakfast to staffing the office, gave the impression that beyond his considerable responsibilities, he had no time or energy for anything but the absolute minimum. Luckily, the people of Ghent welcome visitors, and it was thanks to them that I enjoyed the city at all. Despite the physical signs of wear and tear, the Erasmus Hotel has some charm. One afternoon, I was returning from a museum visit and heard someone play the antique organ on the premises, and someone singing lieder to it. I've also never eaten breakfast in the shadow of a suit of armor. Nevertheless, I wish I'd stayed somewhere else.
B&B Hotel Gent Centrum
4.4/5117 Reviews
The location of the hotel is excellent, very close to the main attractions, there are many tram stations nearby, and the commercial online stores are quite complete. The only dissatisfaction is: I booked a double room, and the result was a big bed. This was a bit embarrassing. In addition, the hotel actually had to charge an additional fee for luggage storage (there is a special luggage room). This is completely different from the domestic one. Breakfast is relatively simple, after eating once, I changed it to eat in the surrounding small shops.
