The stay in Mutsumikan was very good. The Hotel (Ryokan) is very close to the train station. To the center of Gero it takes roundabout 5 minutes by foot. The experience seemed very authentic. Most of the staff understand basic english, so communication was never an issue. Our room was very clean and tidy. Everything you need for a 2 night trip was there. The outdoorbath was pretty small, but that was never an issue with the amount of people staying there. Breakfast and dinner were in a japanese style and very tasty, but maybe not to everyone's palate. Overall the stay was pretty good and I would stay there again.

Traditional Japanese hot spring hotel, very close to JR, about 5 minutes walk, but need to go uphill and downhill. The dinner of one night and two meals is good, and we think the breakfast is average. There is free coffee on the first floor, but you need to pay attention to the opening time. It happened to be Saturday when we went there, and there were winter fireworks. Although it was only 10 minutes, it was quite satisfying. There are hot springs both indoors and outdoors. There are not many pools, but fortunately there are few people. The outdoor bath is still quite comfortable. If it is snowing when you are bathing, the atmosphere will be better. One thing is not good, that is, there is no water dispenser in the hot spring. The room type we booked has a toilet in the room, but no bathroom, which means that whether you take a hot spring or not, you have to take a bath in the public bathroom.
