The hotel is built using the building of the hall, which has a strong Nanyang style and a certain historical basis. It is like the flavor of the Republic of China. The furnishings are also very tasteful.
Satisfied with the cleanliness, love the antique feel and the family room design. Breakfast is nice although slow due to the ala cart and small kitchen.
Reception service is ok but their knowledge is limited to within the hotel only. They know nothing outside the hotel even though it's just around the hotel within walking distance.
The hotel is within walking distance to the coast, restaurants and amenities. The room was basic but acceptable. The noise from other rooms was noticeable and disturbing. The cleaning staff were lovely.

Penang has a colonial style hotel. The balcony is close to the sea and the sea view is unobstructed. The room is quite large and has a tropical style, especially the bathroom and cloakroom. The symmetrical design highlights the luxury and elegance. It is the most unforgettable hotel
if you guys are looking for place that are really near to penang street art and padang kota, then Bishop Hotel is really the best to stay. it is so near to Georgetown main attraction as it is really walkable. staff is really friendly and check in process is really fast. required a deposit of rm100 and can be obtain back after check out. speaking of room, it’s not spacious enough, thin wall and no fridge. but it’s quite ok if just wanna hangout and chill. other than that, it was a really nice experience staying at this hotel. definitely would love to stay here again in the future.
I've had a good stay there for in total 6 days. Clean and comfort place, walking distance to the hospital i went to.
Unfortunately the cafe was closed during my stay. Hopefully it will be opened soon.
Old building look but inside were newly renovated, the same for the room.
Overall are not bad, with free parking, 24 hours mart downstair.
The breakfast choices are not much but still able to have full breakfast with nice sea or city view.
No swimming pool but my kids were able to enjoy in the bath tub.
Here’s a translation of your review into English:
It was a very delightful one-night stay. Upon arrival at the front desk, we were greeted with warm smiles and excellent service, along with a welcome ice cream. We were even offered a complimentary upgrade to a king bed room.
When we entered the room, we were pleasantly surprised to see that the hotel had thoughtfully accommodated my request made online to be near the elevator, as I was traveling with two young children and wanted to avoid walking too far. The room was very clean and spacious, and the bed was extremely comfortable.
To our surprise, the minibar included a birthday cake, as I had mentioned online that we were staying to celebrate my husband’s birthday. This thoughtful gesture truly touched us. Additionally, the hotel provided complimentary snacks and soft drinks, which were a lovely bonus.
We chose this hotel for its convenience, as it allowed our two children to rest easily after getting tired from exploring the mall. It turned out to be exactly as we hoped—super convenient. The hotel is also close to a famous food street, but unfortunately, we couldn’t visit due to the rain. Instead, we dined at one of the many restaurant options within the mall.
The breakfast the next morning was abundant and delicious, and since our two kids are under five, they enjoyed complimentary breakfast as well.
We have no regrets about choosing this hotel. Our entire family had a wonderful time, and we would definitely stay here again in the future.
Let me know if you’d like any adjustments!
The attitude of the store clerk was very good, but the cockroach in the room was as big as a northern mouse. It was the biggest cockroach I have ever seen. It scared me so much that I could only turn on the light to sleep in the middle of the night.
It’s my second stay at Spices, a restored heritage shophouse hotel with nine rooms. With complimentary coffee and tea as well as a library, the two lounge areas are a peaceful place to relax and unwind after a day of gallivanting, exploring, and eating your way through Georgetown’s bustling markets. It’s in an ideal central location while also being down a quiet street, so there’s not much noise, even if your room is street side. There is a mosque nearby though, so light sleepers will have an early wake up. Thank you to the friendly staff for accommodating me again.

Very Good
FFiona Yoke PingLoved my stay! We were soooo happy to be upgraded to a room with a view that was sooooo spacious! Stayed there for four nights over nye and had a great view of the fireworks!!
My only complaint would be that there isn’t a Nespresso coffee machine in the room (which is a surprise given that most hotels now offer them) nor do they provide cotton wool (isn’t that also a basic provision?).
Do note that the hotel doesn’t provide complimentary bottled water either, and only tap with filtered water… however I did appreciate them giving out mint water/ pandan bluepea water in the afternoon for guests (wished that it’s all day long!) at the lobby.
SSeeWhyLove the rich history of this place! It is certain a grand dame hotel - like Penang’s The Peninsula Hotel - that has 140 years of history. My mum and I enjoyed photographic the Victorian architecture, the curios corridor and looking at the photos of celebrities and notable people who have stayed at the hotel, including Sun Yat-Sen and Michelle Yeoh. The breakfast buffet at Sarkies is satisfying; the pool in the Victory annex is great and we loved our seaview room with balcony.
SshalinpremWe had initially booked the Serene Suite but upgraded to the Luxury Suite upon arrival as we wanted a bath tub. Had the best experience in this hotel. Service was impeccable. The staff at this hotel are extremely helpful and hospitable. Rooms were always cleaned on time and requests made were seen to asap. We would definitely stay here again. Location of this hotel was perfect. We could walk to most places we went to around Georgetown. Hardly any traffic which made things much easier.
22centsworthGreat location, friendly front desk staff and housekeeping staff. Nice lobby area. Rooms are clean and spacious. I wasn’t given a city view or garden view, but it’s ok. Good toilet amenities.
GGuest UserThe good:
No deposit upon checking in, check in and out was a breeze, parking provided, the room carpet is clean and centralised aircond cools the room very quickly, the bed and bedding is comfy, cleanliness is tiptop, there's a pool and gym that's nice, and the TV channels were decent
The bad:
Did not validate my car plate and upon driving out, i was charged rm60+ for overnight parking. this was sorted out very quickly but was a hassle, the entrance to room from the parking lot is weird and not disabled friendly.
Overall, i had a good rest at st giles wembley at a decent price. Joined the membership and got a nice cup of coffee at the lobby. I got a room near the lift, so there were noises outside thus the soundproofing is not very good. But felt safe and the clean room feels good. A solid 4 out of 5, could have been better if it came with breakfast minus the hiccup at parking fees.
GGuest UserI really enjoyed my stay here. The staff was super friendly and it was super easy to communicate with them. I loooove looooooved the room and how clean it was. I will definitely be staying here again.
CCalvan TanOur regular hotel whenever we visit Penang. Hotel is clean and just beside New Lane Night Market (except Wednesday). The only downside is the swimming pool comes with lots of crows and pigeons. Hope the hotel management can set up some netting or so to prevent the birds from coming to the pool. Anyway thanks everyone. ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️
RR...AThe hotel is very old located in the center of George Twon closer to seaside. I have booked family room. Space and lay out is ok but 2 issues, 1 the inner parents room has a large empty space by the window (seaview the say but hardly seeing tho) we were puzzled why no pair of sofa chairs with a tea table, what is this space for? Super odd...
2 the connecting door for two rooms doesn't close well, not saying the lock doesn't work, no no, the door can't even able to be fully shut.
Services is almost zero. Don't count on it. All in all besides the location and fact has family room options, I don't have anything else to write home about this hotel. Oh and the sound proof is zero too, not saying between our 2 rooms. I basically had bad sleep whole 4 nights stay cos outside in the hall almost never stopped having doors open/shutting and people loudly talking/walking by noises...
Won't book again.
PP Sri Melor M YusoffI booked three rooms for our stay. 1 room has poor AC conditioning. Not cool at all. We arrived late at night so we did not request for a change or maintenance to resolve. The room is very small. No iron in the room.
AAnonymous UserThe location of the hotel is remarkable, very good, convenient to go everywhere. Downstairs is next to a breakfast shop, the roast meat and white chicken are absolutely delicious, especially delicious.
The hotel is very clean, and the accommodation is satisfactory. It is a good choice to only sleep and mainly go out for fun. The only dissatisfied waitress who came down to open the door for us was thin and wearing a nose stud, very arrogant and impolite. The slightly fatter waitress responsible for checkin is very good, and the male waiter who cleans the room is also very good.
