Lovely hotel. Stayed for 2 nights as was going to Queen's Hall for a concert. Room was lovely and clean. I believe the hotel is being modernised . Didn't book breakfast but wish we had as heard it was very good. Had lovely views and was central to shops, buses and ferry. Would definitely stay again.

All round excellent! Despite poor weather a coach holiday to remember - thanks to Susie and her team & Alan our driver, Caledonian have a winner here, especially if/when access to the hotel is improved. The Esplanade is spotlessly clean and meals are real quality.

My mother and I turned up for a 2 night stay. Having not been back to Dunoon for 30 years. We had booked The Esplanade as my mother had stayed there over 30-35 years ago. The view from the room and grounds looked amazing. Upon arrival we were not impressed with the hotel. We received the key for the room and went to view. After going up the smallest of lifts through many small winding hallways and up and down many stairs we arrived at the room. The room seemed clean very old with mismatched furniture. The room was of very poor quality. The view was absolutely stunning. There was a lot of building work going on in the street. Walking back through the entertainment space which felt like an old folks home. The balcony was old tatty and dirty. We returned to the reception and gave back the key apologising that we could not possibly stay. The hotel was not up to our standard and the web photos were deceiving. They also only did food at breakfast. The owners were not there and the receptionist refused a refund. I emailed and got no response. I contacted my bank as the hotel had taken the full payment. Having then emailed the hotel again to inform them of my actions. They called me this afternoon and refused point blank to issue the refund as apparently you’re not entitled to have standards. I am leaving this to the bank to sort out. I had advised the hotel that I would post this negative review if they did not issue the refund!!!

Booked 2 nights. Stayed one and even that was too long worst break ever not clean menu terrible room tiny mattress needs replaced springs long gone not accessible as descibed in info staff lack experience and knowledge of how to cancel so we had to stay first night because no manager available have been issued a refund but have to wait and see if it comes was offered another stay complimentary but it’s the whole place so pointless and now they have been threatening me with legal if I leave reviews on booking sites that’s customer services for you so my advice is if your old and infirm or disabled with limited mobility don’t book because it’s not really accessible as stated and carpark on a hill ,I even emailed ahead was told yes then manager has since told them off because we were not the only one informed wrong information and the final straw was the breakfast waitress was excellent Laura food was good but the Rat wasn’t nice to see running about and when the manager was informed she said you sure it wasn’t a robin ,I’m now waiting for their lawyers to contact me will update in due course

Arrived at hotel carpark, very limited spaces. At reception the lady was reading on the computer and just ignored us finally after about 5mins she then acknowledged us. We were in room 323 facing the bay lovely views. The room was pretty basic but bathroom was lovely. In the evening there was a lot of noise coming from the terrace below our room, weather was gorgeous so had to open windows wide. Left for a night out in town but apon our arrival back the noise from the terrace below was just as loud and continued until 2am (thankfully we didn't have children with us), we asked them to keep it down and were ignored 3 times I tried to contact reception with no avail. The noise only stopped when it started raining but then started up when it stopped. Finally fell asleep to be woken up again by the seagulls playing in the mess that was left behind at 5am, managed to get some more sleep then the guys returned to clean up the bottles left and talking rather loudly again. On checkin out of hotel informed the receptionist who had informed us that other guests had complained also, we were told it was the managers son and friends and that it was just laughed off as being no problem. Will never return again

We've been to the Esplanade several times now with the last visit a couple of years ago so it was nice to see the improvements made in the time. We arrived on a GB Tours coach holiday after our long journey and from the first moment we were made to feel welcome by Suzy and her team. Our room was comfortable and clean with a comfortable bed/pillows. The condiments were fully loaded with plenty of tea/coffee/milk etc. so no need to eak out the tea and coffee which sometimes happens. The bathroom was clean and operational despite being in need of a little bit of tlc though nothing major. The tv was fine except we had a problem with permanent subtitles which couldn't be turned off as the remote was a substitute. Suzy did her best to try to find one that was better matched before we left - with limited success. The lift always worked and with a limit of three persons was not overcrowded. The menu for breakfast had a good choice - I had fruit juice, porridge, scrambled eggs, tomatoes and beans followed by toast and marmalade/honey/jams with tea or coffee. Dinner was equally varied with starters, main and desert all presented nicely and cooked perfectly followed by tea or coffee. The waiter service was excellent with no-one having to wait for their food. Entertainment was provided on two nights which people enjoyed if it was to their taste. Bar prices were in line with most other hotels but it's down to personal choice, while the lounge area offered a nice place to relax and enjoy the view. The hotel is ideally situated on the front looking out to sea and the islands so a walk along the promenade is an easy option either to get to the town or simply take in the air and scenery. Suzy and her team made us look forward to our next stay at the Esplanade.

We were there this weekend with bus tour. The hotel is dated but very clean. Our bedroom was lovely and big with excellent shower room . Food was fine but maybe a better choice. Think with bus tours hotels tend to do a slightly less choice menu. The staff were very friendly and obliging. The view of the loch from our room was amazing. Nice lounge/function room though some of the chairs need re upholstering. All in all we would recommend and would return again.
