Best Hotels near Island of Lokrum, Dubrovnik

My fiancé and I visited for 4 nights as he was taking part in the Dubrovnik triathlon. We booked with EasyJet Holidays and had a private transfer to and from the airport. Our driver both ways was excellent. On the journey into Dubrovnik he stopped at a viewpoint so that we could see the Old Town for the first time. Our driver on the way back to the airport told us more of the local area that we had started to see. First impressions of the hotel were really good. Impressive entrance and lobby area. The bedroom had a beautiful view of the sea, the nearer islands and the distant coastline. The room had a good sized wardrobe with hangers. There was a well stocked minibar if you want that kind of thing and what we thought was a welcome bottle of wine but actually had a sign next to it to say it was part of the display and chargeable. There are no drawers in the room so for a couple staying longer than we did, there is inadequate storage. The bathroom is stocked with nice shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, shower gel and body lotion. The pool area was clean but we only used the inside pool which was on the top floor which was a lovely space. The pool temperature said 27 degrees but was very cold. The jacuzzi was really nice as was the sauna and steam room! The reason for a low rating given that this is advertised as a 5 star hotel was the food, especially the evening meal, which was dreadful !! The breakfast was passable but I’ve eaten in better cafés !!! The restaurant was open until 10pm and one night we got there at 8.30 pm and the second time 9pm so nowhere near the end of service. We had to attract attention to order drinks. There is very little choice for starters. There were piles of soup bowls but no soup. The main course consisted of mostly overcooked meat or small bits of fish. The ‘veg’ last night was a choice of a pea slop in some form of gravy, a beetroot risotto that had no moisture and no taste and either potato pie or what I would call a hash brown. My fiancé and I got a selection of desserts as we’d hardly eaten anything and absolutely nothing had any taste or moisture - no ice cream, cream or custard available. Not even a cheese board and crackers. A really nice touch (not !) is that absolutely no one comes near to clear away dirty plates after each course and therefore you end up with a pile of leftovers and crockery in the middle of your table. Not a good thing at all !! The location of the hotel is very good and the No. 4 bus stops right outside and takes about 15 minutes to get to Pile and the entrance to the old town. (Get the Dubrovnik Pass which not only gives access to the City Walls and museums but also gives free bus travel). We ended up eating out twice because of the food and thank goodness we did; on a recommendation from a friend we went to the Panorama restaurant on our first night which is at the top of the cliff accessible via cable car - stunning views ! It’s so over, the sea view is super beautiful, and you can watch the sunset at night. Although the dinner is a bit expensive, it is very delicious. In fact, it is more expensive than the ancient city, but the restaurant on the other side of the ancient city is not comparable to the taste here. There is a bus to the old town at the entrance of the hotel, which is very convenient.

The Royal Palm is set a little outside the city alongside the coast in a complex of three other ‘royal’ hotels that provided a number of bars and restaurants to choose from throughout the day. This choice extends to the pools and gyms as well. Lovely well appointed and clean rooms. The en suite was well equipped and modern. Great sea views as well. The staff both in the restaurant and reception couldn’t have been more helpful. First time in Croatia. Lovely country, Dubrovnik city was really Beautiful. Most days busy from the cruise ships but its didn’t detract from the place.

Although the hotel is not large, but the location is convenient, the hotel elevator goes straight to a small beach and can swim. Hotel service is very warm, arrived at the hotel at noon, although the room is not cleaned for a while, the hotel will send complimentary drinks, while enjoying the sea view and rest. The hotel’s restaurant is Michelin II and you can taste it without leaving home.

This is a lovely hotel, clean rooms with good supply of hot water & easy to control air-con, clean pool, free pool towels and free safe (no deposit required), pleasant and welcoming staff. Great breakfast with lots of choice. The hotel kindly prepared us a packed breakfast one morning as we had booked an early trip. Also they were quite happy to provide us with an early morning call. Live music is provided several nights a week in the pool area and is good, and not overly loud. Poolside food is excellent and not too pricey. There are vending machines in the hotel so you can get cold drinks and snacks at any time, however they do appear to be a bit temperamental. I was concerned before I arrived after seeing some reports of construction work outside the hotel but in my opinion it has little impact on the hotel. The work is being carried out to the harbour road, so there is some disruption to the view of the boats and beyond from the hotel pool area. However in terms of noise, we experienced none during our stay other than a couple of lorries passing along the road. In terms of access, if you turn left outside the hotel gate, you can easily walk into the town on a well made road and footpath. If you turn right, it is rough underfoot and not suitable for high heeled shoes or pushchairs, but anyone wearing flat shoes and able-bodied is fine (but to be honest, there's little need to turn right). The buses run frequently into Old Dubrovnik (2 euros each way) and the bus stop is about a 10 mins amble up the hill on the roundabout (slightly less if you use the steps on the left after the hotel as it's a short cut). Plenty of restaurants up the hill and across the road to the pedestrian walkway to the beach. Lots of choice.

The first impression was mega. Beautiful large suite with sea view. All right. The room service was OK in the first two days too. Breakfast leaves to wish. At first glance everything the heart wants. But, it doesn't really taste good to unsavourable. The service staff has everything possible to do, just not host the guests or be careful. Completely at the wrong place. For 5 stars what else expects. The cleaning of the room was unfortunately also super great the first two days (have had 6 nights) the last days it was so bad, partly only the washing box made the beds and the towels changed. In the suite there was a nespresso machine with 4 capsules, we were to 2 and accordingly we had only 1 two days of what it was. After that it was no longer filled. Very very bad, you could do so many little things better...

This hotel is situated on the seaside with rooms with very beautiful views directly on the sea. The hotel is part of a huge complex, comprising several hotels and rentals of apartments with many small swimming pools and several restaurants. The rooms are large and comfortable without being able to claim a very luxury character. The hotel is very comfortable and the room was very clean and the bathroom was very clean and the bathroom was very clean and the bathroom was very clean and was very clean. The staff is friendly but probably insufficiently trained, so you are never accompanied to your table at the restaurant and men are served before women,. This lack of quality of service is seen in the breakfast, it is the worst place, a factory, a very large self-service where all guests from the hotels in the complex are all in promiscuity. There again, no one to accompany you at the table or take your order, you are to deal with and serve you in this huge self-catering cantine. Finally, the restaurants of the complex are lunch restaurants but they lack the quality of service, a little more developed map and a refined decor to pretend to welcome you to dinner as a 5-star hotel should be the The hotel is a very good hotel, and it is a good hotel. The top roof of one of the Royal complex hotels remains, however, sympathetic to drink a glass while watching the sunset. At the end this wonderful situation is a little disrupted by the lack of refinements in the hotel, the poor service and the breakfast plant.

When shown the room I enquired if it could possibly be changed. The outlook was grim, over the kitchens which was noisy and there was a strong smell of food. We changed to a much better room the next day. Breakfast was O.K but the evening meal was basic. Pudding was the same every night, cut up fruit, a blancmange type of pudding or small pastry squares. On really hot days a scoop of ice-cream would have been perfect. We decided to eat out one evening and asked if we could swop dinner for lunch. Lunch was actually much cheaper but they said it was not allowed. There was no negotiation which was bad P.R. as most hotels will do this. The cheapest bottle of wine was 30 euros which I thought excessive. On the plus side, Ljuba, the cleaner on floor one was very good, friendly and looked after us very well. The hotel was just over the road from a pleasant beach which was very good for swimming. The hotel pool was very good and in September we always found a sunbed. I think that they need to be a bit more imaginative with the evening meal to ensure that clients return.

This hotel's main fault was it had bad air conditioning. We called for help and ours worked fairly well but others in our group had issues with the heat in their rooms. We had a dinner buffet which was so so without many choices of food nor very tasty food but the dining area was pleasant. We had a nice view from our room which could see the sea in the distance. And the walk to the old town section of Dubrovnik was fairly easy down hill. There was a bus #4 to get back up the hill to the hotel from the nearby square where the Pile Gate access is located. You first buy a ticket at the little kiosk across from where the bus picks you up for just under 2 euros. The hotel's pool had delightfully cool water.
