I recently had the pleasure of staying at this hotel, and it was truly an exceptional experience from start to finish. What stood out immediately was how responsive and efficient the team was through the group chat they created for guests. It felt like having a concierge in your pocket—fast, friendly, and always ready to help. One moment that really impressed me: I had sent my laundry in (yes, they offer complimentary laundry service—not just machines, but actual washing and drying done for you!), and I noticed one of my socks was missing. I casually asked about it in the group chat while I was having breakfast near the reception area. To my surprise, I saw a staff member literally sprint off from the reception and return shortly after—with my missing sock in hand! That level of attentiveness was genuinely remarkable. There was a little hiccup when the hotel forgot our advance booking for transport. We were initially told to book our own as their cars were all taken, which left us pretty dissatisfied—especially since it wasn’t a last-minute request. But while I was venting to my friend, one of our butlers overheard us and quietly stepped in. She said she'd help us out—and to our surprise, she personally booked a DiDi ride for us using her own money. We were honestly amazed by that level of care, and it meant so much that we later decided to bring her a little taste of our local delight as a thank-you gift. The hotel also offers complimentary afternoon tea, complete with barista-made coffee and cakes—a perfect treat to enjoy while soaking in the tranquil atmosphere. Speaking of which, the view from my room was incredible—lush, open grasslands that made every moment feel peaceful and grounding. They also offer a car service to take you to nearby points of interest, but to be honest, the hotel itself was such a gem that I could have easily stayed in the whole time. Between the view, the service, and the food (the in-house restaurant is also worth mentioning—delicious meals and lovely ambience), I never felt the need to venture far. This hotel nails it when it comes to comfort, hospitality, and thoughtful touches. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a truly relaxing and memorable stay. Bonus: they have three adorable chowskis roaming around the property, and one of them can even open the lobby door. 🐾 Honestly, that alone made my day. Facilities: The hotel has complete facilities, diffuse oxygen supply, floor heating, smart toilet, wet and dry separation in the bathroom, and all the necessary equipment is available. The free breakfast is on the third floor, and there are many dishes for self-service. Service: The service is very thoughtful. After arriving at the Feilai Temple bus stop, we called the front desk to pick us up immediately. After checking in, the lady kindly sent hot milk and fruit. Hygiene: The indoor hygiene is very clean and you can stay at ease. Environment: You can see the Meili Snow Mountain directly from the floor-to-ceiling windows. You don’t have to go to the Feilai Temple viewing platform. You can see the snow mountain directly in the house. It’s very convenient!

This hotel offers a great location to view the Meili Snow Mountains during the morning golden peak and also sunset (if you're lucky with the weather conditions). It is right next to the bus stop, which means it is very convenient if you are planning to catch an early morning bus (in our case). Rooms can be a bit pricey, but we know that we are essentially paying for the view. The food at the hotel is also tasty, I didn't need to go and look anywhere else for dinner and breakfast. I appreciated the great help that was provided by a staff named Xiao Wei. We arrived at the hotel when it was raining and wasn't expecting to see any mountain range in sight, but then the sky suddenly cleared up during the evening just shortly before sunset whilst we were having dinner and Xiao Wei came over to tell us to go and have a look at the snow mountain, which made our hearts rushed with joy. We also appreciated when Xiao Wei told us again during night time that the mountain range was visible so we quickly opened the curtain to treat ourselves with another fantastic view. The viewing platform on the top floor is a great location to see the sunrise and golden peak. I personally think it's even better viewing at the Feilai Temple platform that most tourists go to. On a final note, Xiao Wei again was very kind to help us by going to the bus platform at 8.30 AM in the morning to help us purchase the bus tickets from the driver (we couldn't do so as wechat pay didn't work for us). We were very happy with our stay here and got very lucky with some of the best views during our entire Yunnan trip. Thank you very much to Xiao Wei and the staff at Once Upon A Time in Meili :)

The room features a heated floor, heated bed mat, and a heated bidet seat, offering exceptional comfort. Overlooking the majestic and gigantic Meili Snow Mountain, the view is breathtaking. The cozy atmosphere ensured a restful and deep sleep.

”We're from Thailand, and this hotel is superb! The rooms are clean, warm, and cozy, with floor and bedroom heating—perfect for the cold weather. The toilet even has an auto bidet (very important for us Thais!). Though the hotel is on high ground and the stairs might make you a bit tired, the effort is totally worth it. The owner is incredibly kind, offering unlimited drinking water and fresh fruit. The rooftop has the best view—beautiful scenery where you can relax and enjoy the moment. The size of the room was crazy, and super clean, with floor heating, humidifier and oxygen machine, very friendly to the ones who suffer from altitude sickness (luckily both of us were tough enough) and the staff of the hotel might be the most warm-hearted and friendly hotel staff I’ve ever seen. If you have Wechat they will add you into a service group and you can ask for help or services there, very convenient. And it is also super close to the ancient city, 5mins walk. 10/10, will definitely recommend to family and friends.

Very nice and hospitable owner. There are high mountain sickness tea available at lobby also some snacks. Nice room and nice with glass roof. The homestay include pick up and drop off services from the train stations for our 2-night stay. They also provided day tours and a special ******* cuisine tour, complete with pick up services. On our last day, the lady owner woke up at 6:30 am to send us off. It was a lovely gesture and truly made our stay memorable.

We had an amazing stay at Shangri-La Banxia Time Homestay, and we highly recommend it to anyone visiting Shangri-La, Yunnan. From the moment we booked, the host was extremely responsive, keeping in touch with us for three weeks before our trip. They provided useful tips, such as bringing heavy clothes due to the cold and snow, which helped us a lot in preparing for our visit. One of the best things about this homestay was the hospitality. The host picked us up and dropped us off at the train station for free of charge, making our arrival and departure hassle-free. They also went the extra mile by lending us winter jackets at no cost, which was a thoughtful gesture. Additionally, they arranged a driver for us to visit the places we wanted to explore, making our trip smooth and enjoyable. The homestay itself was fantastic—spacious, exactly as shown in the pictures, and equipped with complete amenities. It truly felt like a home away from home. The bed was very comfortable, and we appreciated the hot blankets and oxygen supply, which were essential due to Shangri-La’s high altitude. The homestay also had a modern design while being located in the heart of the ancient town, offering easy access to everything. Beyond the comfortable stay, the host’s kindness and guidance made our experience even better. They recommended great places to visit and local restaurants to try, ensuring we had a memorable trip.
