Datong Pingcheng District Hotels

A very pleasant stay at the Pipa Old Inn. A very historical building, though the place is equipped with all necessary modern amenities save for an elevator. Fortunately the staff very helpful assisted us with lugging up our heavy luggage to our room on the 3rd floor. Very beautifully decorated and strategically located in the heart of Datong Ancient City. Very pleasant and helpful staff who helped us plan and arrange our trips around Datong though sadly, they weren't very proficient in English (but that's common in China). Free breakfast was included in our stay and there was a decent spread though the menu didn't change much over our stay there save for one or two vegetable dishes being rotated. Overall definitely worth a return trip and stay in Datong Ancient City.

Just realized I forgot to leave a review, so I'm specially coming back to write one! My sister and I stayed here for two days in Datong after attending a wedding in Taiyuan. The courtyard is lovely, and it was so comfortable just relaxing there. They also provide complimentary bicycles, which we used to cycle to attractions like Yanhuasi, Shanhuasi, and the Nine-Dragon Wall, and to explore local eateries nearby. The service was exceptional. Our initial room unfortunately still had a slight renovation smell, even six months after the work was done, so they promptly moved us to a family suite. The front desk staff were very apologetic and even offered us a discount. Later, when I came down with a stomach bug, the owner personally brewed Puer tea for me, chatted, and genuinely checked in on my well-being. We later learned the guesthouse is run by the owner and their friends, which truly explains its wonderfully warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Two nights at Laochengenguan was absolutely fantastic! First, it was spotless and well-equipped. Second, the breakfast was abundant and delicious, even coming with fruit. Third, the service was truly top-notch; their patience made us feel right at home! (I booked two nights, but needed to switch rooms in between, which shows how popular this place is. However, on the morning of the second day, we were rushing to Hengshan Hanging Temple and completely forgot about the room change. The owner actually called to check if we’d like to move, as the new room was already cleaned. Of course, we happily agreed! This way, it didn't disrupt our sightseeing, and we could rest as soon as we returned! A big thank you to the owner once again! Staying at Laochengenguan is perfect for visiting attractions and shopping.

We had a very pleasant stay at this hotel. The room was very spacious and comfortable, with the toilet and shower separated, which was very convenient. The location is great—just a short Didi (cab) ride to Datong Ancient City. The service was excellent. The reception staff were very helpful, assisting us with booking a one-day cab to visit the Hanging Temple and giving clear advice on how to get around the city. There are also a few restaurants and convenience stores within a short walking distance, which made things easy. The hotel itself has a bar and a coffee area, adding to the overall convenience. Overall, a very good experience.

This is an older hotel, and the decor feels a bit dated. However, you can tell it was once very luxurious and grand. The cleanliness is acceptable, and both the room and bathroom are spacious. If they updated worn items like the chairs (which are old and peeling) and the beds, it would still be a very good hotel. Even my child immediately commented that the bed and pillows weren't as comfortable as Atour's (we had just checked out of an Atour in Beijing). The price for a standard budget hotel already exceeds a five-star, we paid over 1000 there. So, timely updates to aging facilities could not only justify higher prices but also significantly improve the guest experience. The front desk never mentioned the complimentary bathhouse tickets included with the booking, and since we weren't planning on going, we didn't ask about them. The daily fruit platter was very generous, which was a nice touch. Breakfast offered a good variety, and the lamb offal soup was delicious. The breakfast staff were also very friendly and enthusiastic. You don't need to queue at trendy,网红 spots outside for Chinese food; the hotel's Chinese restaurant is decent and not overpriced. My child particularly loved the croissants there. The hotel's location is decent; it's quite convenient if you're taking taxis for all your comings and goings.

This is one of the best hotels I have stayed in. The service at the buffet breakfast was impeccable while the breakfast varieties were acceptable. The service provided by the staff with the employees' tag below was superb during my breakfast. The room is huge, a truly international 5 star quality. Daily cleaning service was great while I didn't manage to get their name, but kudos to their services. All in all, my experience here was great, and I would recommend anyone who stay at this hotel.

It was a little difficult to find the place to check in. This was a nice, clean hotel room. We stayed in a family friendly room. The beds were comfortable and there were drawers and a lot of counter space, a desk, end table, and small table. There were 3 extra pillows in a cabinet. There was an access code, so when someone left others weren't left in the dark and checkout was just a matter of sending a message via WeChat. We really liked this hotel!

A lovely hotel close to the old wall and not far from Datong’s must see historic attractions. The hotel staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfasts are great and there is also an optional evening buffet which is good value. There is a self service laundry which the staff help you with. Rooms are nice and clean and the hotel is nice and quiet. Highly recommend

Spacious room, clean and comfortable. Breakfasts were more than adequate with a choice of varieties. Hotel location was ok just outside the wall though neighbouring shops were all shuttered. Taxis plentiful and inexpensive. Nightly dinner was at the hotel restaurant - good food, surprisingly very affordable prices and extremely good services from the staff. What stood out most were the very helpful, cheerful staff, at the front desk, restaurants, and cleaners!

A truly beautiful and luxurious hotel. I particularly loved its style and the quality of the amenities. However, the customer service was quite poor, and there seemed to be a significant lack of resources. I'm not sure if this is due to the summer season, but there was no robot delivery for food – I even had to pick up my own takeout. Having stayed in countless 5-star hotels in many different cities, I can honestly say I've never encountered such issues. I sincerely hope they improve. On a separate note, I'd like to thank Ctrip for their support and excellent problem-solving skills. Ctrip is always a reliable choice for travelers; they are truly trustworthy!
