Jingshan Wenyuan Courtyard (Datong Ancient City Huayan Temple)

This guesthouse is nestled within an antique-style building in the Panjiayuan Antique Market. It boasts convenient transportation and offers a quiet escape amidst the city's buzz. Its location is ideal, being very close to Huayan Temple, Qingyuan Gate, and the Rumen Datong Performing Arts Center. The rooms truly embody an opulent traditional Chinese aesthetic, complete with a full set of antique-style wooden furniture. We specifically chose this hotel to experience authentic Chinese seating and bedding. Upon arrival, our expectations were met; the room was incredibly comfortable, and the solid wood flooring felt wonderful underfoot. The curtains, wallpaper, and furniture all contribute to an elegant, classic Chinese ambiance, making every corner Instagram-worthy. From the second-floor rooms, guests can admire the intricate beam structure of the traditional Chinese architecture, as well as the lotus pots in the courtyard and the detailed brick carvings on the eaves – a truly captivating sight. In contrast, the sink and bathroom facilities are surprisingly modern. The brass-colored sink, in particular, made me wonder if it was a subtle homage to Datong's renowned bronze craftsmanship. The Appelles herbal-scented toiletries were another delightful surprise. Above all, the hotel's service truly stood out. The front desk proactively reached out with hotel information even before our arrival. All staff members greeted us warmly, and the housekeeping team, especially one particular lady, was incredibly efficient and helpful. When I requested a late check-out, both the front desk and the cleaning staff not only agreed without hesitation but proactively suggested I rest longer in the room due to the hot weather outside. This gesture was incredibly touching! P.S. The breakfast was exquisite and delicious, and the black tea was particularly noteworthy.

This charming courtyard property, nestled within Datong Ancient City, is set back from the street, ensuring a peaceful and quiet stay. Its excellent location is just a 5-10 minute walk from Huayan Temple. The courtyard itself is spotless, and the rooms are beautifully appointed in an authentic, antique Chinese style. Anyone who appreciates traditional Siheyuan courtyards will absolutely adore this place. Breakfast, prepared fresh in their small kitchen, is a wholesome and thoughtfully arranged meal, including staples, vegetables, meat, and noodles, all served piping hot and delicious. The owner's hospitality is exceptional; they even personally provide complimentary pick-up and drop-off service to/from the station. I will absolutely choose to stay here again on my next trip to Datong.
