Zhanbei Express Hotel (Datong Railway Station)

Amazing, 3 minutes from the train station and surrounded by a lot of restaurants. I was able to check in super early which was a very nice experience after a long train trip. The room is just perfect, private bathroom, comfortable bed and it's a warm place.

The room is bad and the shared washroom is very bad. In the Golden Week holidays when every hotel in Datong is charging 2-4 times their normal price. The owner of this hotel also decided to charge 4 times the regular price. But did not care to provide comparable living standards. Even for the regular price the conditions are not very welcoming. I attached the pictures of the Washroom, that the owner forgot to attach in the Description. There are no tissue papers, long line of people to use the toilets and the sink. For two floors with approximately more than 15 people staying on each floor only 3 or 4 toilets and 1 shower. There was no toilet paper in sight. Imagine the smell and intensity. The room window side was adjacent to the railway tracks and the slit between window and wall allowed to also listen the snoring and chatter of the neighbours the whole night. Plus the broken door also made sure that all the noise from the hallway and toilets was loudly communicated. The owner is of course aware of it all, and is happy to make money this way. You can try to avoid feeling scammed and embarrassed like me. I attached the pictures of the toilets that the owner forgot to upload in the description (you are welcome owner)

Ajummah at the front desk is very accommodating. I arrived at 6:30am and they were able to provide me a room at 8am. Very close to the railway station. The downside is room smells tobacco. The common bathroom is extremely dirty and smells like urine. There were even poop left is there without flashing down. I had to go up to the 3rd floor and use the bathroom there instead of the one in our floor. No towels, toiletries, slippers, hair dryer. If you just need a day to rest that is near the railways station, you can book this, otherwise look for other hotels in the area.

Great location next to the train station although it is located a little off the nearby street. The staff was very accommodating in granting me an early check in. Overall, comfortable and with great value.

I could not ask for anything more. It’s a simple place to sleep and I chose the room with the shared bathroom. I was exhausted and slept well. The staff are kind and it is safe. There’s a hot water boiler provided. Photos show the amazing old town.

Really close to the railway station. The staff are very kind and friendly and serve with warm hospitality. If guests cannot speak Mandarin Chinese, the staff try to communicate by using a translation app. Also easy access to the old city of Datong, Yungang grottos and Datong south railway station（high speed railway survices）.
