This hotel is OK, that's the best way to describe it. The bed was comfortable and clean and the common area is very nice, but everything else seemed to be struggling. First, this is clearly not a new hotel, but a renovated one. And I don't know if I've ever seen a renovation so poorly done. Paint was uneven, cracks left unfixed, the tile in the shower looked like a topographic map, the caulking was globbed on, the vanity is pulling away from the wall. It should have been a nice, streamlined design, but it gave the impression the room was old and crumbling. The room was generally clean, but housekeeping is literally cutting corners. There was dust on the windowsills and the corners of the shower were mildewing, likely due to the poor caulk installation, but still. Those things are relatively minor. The real problem that this hotel seems to be having is the HVAC. The hallway is muggy and smells like the last carpet shampooing never properly aired out. The AC in the room had trouble keeping up and managing humidity. The room smelled slightly vaguely musty but I couldn't put my finger on it until I realized right before checkout that the carpet in front of the AC was wet; it leaks.

Never before in all my years of traveling have I had an experience like my recent stay at this property. This Holiday Inn Express is about 5 minutes from Corpus Christi Downtown, in a bit of an Industrial area. We've stayed here several times and it's a nice, very clean property. We like this location because it's not in the middle of all the traffic, and not next to the beach (more traffic and higher prices). It also has freeway access which makes getting around town an absolute snap. When my wife and I pulled into the parking lot we were a little concerned that the property was closed for some reason. There wasn't a single car in sight. So very odd. We pulled under the canopy and saw the lights were indeed on, so we walked inside. A very nice young man ”Chris” greeted us and checked us in. We asked Chris why the parking lot was empty? He explained to us that the hotel ”had no guests” today. LOL, he must have seen the concern on our faces and soothed our nerves by explaining that the day after Thanksgiving is a traditionally slow day at this property. Calmed by these words we headed up to our room. Turns out we had been upgraded to a larger, corner room. Really appreciated that too. Over the next two days, we came to feel spoiled like we've never experienced. Instead of property staff appearing bored and lifeless, they made every effort to treat us well and make us feel at home. We came to know the Manager ”Lydia” and the lady that runs the breakfast buffet (which by the way was in full swing despite only the two of us eating). They all took care of us, and helped answer all our questions about where to go and what to do. I've just never, ever felt so comfortable and at home in a hotel. I didn't think it was possible to feel this way. Kudos to every single member of this team. It boggles my mind that you would be so professional, given the empty property. We never saw a single shortcut taken. My wife and I had the full Holiday Inn Express treatment, and a little extra to boot. I'm humbled to know that these good people took our comfort so seriously. I really believe that they are a credit to the entire Holiday Inn Express brand, and should all be awarded for their obvious professionalism and commitment to customer service. Every traveler should experience staff like this. I can't say enough nice things about them.

The toilet and shower were not clean at all. Had to clean then myself. The shower had no water pressure. They charge you for parking per day but our access card did not work the entire weekend. We had to press the service button to be let every time and we got stuck out there one time when no one was at the front desk. When we let the front desk know, she did not help fix the problem she just said get a ticket and the gate will open, but that did not help we we needed to exit.

We stayed here for 3 nights, and couldn't have been happier. All the staff were very friendly and attentive. The room was spacious, with a comfortable bed. The pool and hot tub where always clean and very relaxing. The breakfast was delicious, eggs, meat, waffles, yourgart, fruit, toast, bagels and cereal. We highly recommend and we will stay here again, if ever down here again.
