Holiday Inn Calais - Coquelles

Needing a hotel for a night prior to returning to the UK we opted for this Holiday Inn. It is a bit of a drive if you wish to dine elsewhere, especially if you have driven all day as we had. The welcome was genuine in excellent English. The room was bright, clean with pristine bedlinen and a very comfortable bed. The bathroom a little tired, especially the floor tiles ; the shower needed descaling and the loo definitely needed bleach! It seems that parts of the hotel have been refurbished but the main concern was the really off putting stale smell in the bedroom. Perhaps windows need opening more often? We dined in the restaurant which is simply furnished with a modern decor. The menu is limited. Opting for the fish kebab the fish was acceptable but accompanied by a very bitter, thick yellow sauce. The cod with pesto was fine. Drinks are not cheap here. However it took ages to order a second glass of wine. I walked to the bar but was ignored( the waiters were really busy but never looked our way as they were working hard. Eventually a second drink was obtained but took forever. Staff are pleasant and speak English really well. This could be a really good stopover but not sure I would return. Having joined IHG we were told we had a discounted room but checking on Booking.Com no reduction was apparent!
B&B Hotel Calais Terminal Cite Europe 4 Etoiles

This is a 4* apart hotel and deservedly so. Our apartment was well appointed and in good decorative order. The room has a microwave oven and a small washing up sink and you would have to take or obtain your own utensils. The mini kitchen is thus only suitable mainly for re-heating ready meals or cooking basic foods such as porridge or soups. We had a few night's good rest here and did use the microwave on occasion. there is a Lidl's across the road and the huge Cite D' Europe opposite with restaurants' bars and shops. So no need to look far for food etc. We have enjoyed a few stays here and as stated the room is both comfortable and commodious. Reasonably priced accommodation , and breakfast is available, but we felt a bit too expensive at roughly £17 as we tend not too eat a lot at breakfast time. But if you fancy indulging yourself it's well worth it in our opinion. Definitely a reasonably priced good stopover hotel and one I have no hesitation in recommending.
B&B Hotel Calais Terminal Cité Europe 2 étoiles

Very basic; small room; way overpriced for what you get; but at least got a (somewhat) funny story out of it My first surprise coming here was when I went into the B & B hotel lobby and was told, ”No sorry, this is the B & B 4-star, your hotel is next door.” So then I went next door and was told ”No sorry, this is the B & B 3-star, YOUR HOTEL IS OUT BACK BY THE PARKING”. (all in French of course!) Yes, unknown to me, and probably unknown to many others, the so-called B&B hotel chain operates a 2-star, a 3-star and a 4-star hotel all on the same site! What a strange way to confuse customers! Is B&B Hotels trying to be all things to all people? So with that out of the way I trudged out back to my 2-star accomodation, only to find that it is almost identical with an Ibis-Budget. Not a room you would like to spend any time in. Small room with just the basics. Very disappointing for 75 euros! I was really expecting something a lot better. Also, why call your hotel a B&B if breakfast isn't included? This violates the whole concept of what a B&B is. Breakfast here is an extra item, but based on the general quality of the hotel, I didn't have much confidence it will be very good. I had to get downtown to the station by 10 am on a Sunday, and when the bus didn't turn up at 8am I decided I'd better not risk the next one turning up. I ended up trudging all the way to the centre, a good 2.5 miles by a non-pedestrianised way. It was fun though and It reminded me of hitchhiking around France 30 years ago. On the positive side, there are several nice eating choices a short walk away. The hotel is a 5 min walk to cite Europe with a very good food court. The Flunch serves French food cafeteria style at bargain prices. There is also a good burger place there. Still the words ”YOUR HOTEL IS OUT BACK BY THE PARKING” will forever remain in my memory as sort of B&B hotels slogan.

Good clean comfortable hotel. Staff very helpful and friendly. Had dinner at hotel - good value and well presented with good service. Ideal when travelling via tunnel. 5 minutes from terminal. Needs a better signage from road.
