Hopper Hotel St. Josef

The hotel is in a side street. About 25 minutes to the old town/cathedral. The chocolate museum is about 15 minutes down by the water. In January...so until January 7th there is a small New Year's market with a Ferris wheel by the chocolate museum. The hotel is very nice. Our room, a double room, had a balcony. It was clean and good for one night. The only thing that bothered us was that there was no door in the bathroom. The toilet is separate...thank goodness. I don't know if it's like that in every room. But it was like that in room 304. The breakfast room is an old chapel. Absolutely beautiful. Breakfast was sufficient and included everything. Very tasty. I would recommend the hotel. The receptionist was very friendly.

＞ the Hopper Hotel St. Josef is located in Cologne's Südstadt district ＞ 65 rooms in 3 categories ＞＞ single, double and special rooms ＞＞ each room can be selected as an economy or business room ＞ 24 hour reception ＞ Check-in from 3:00 p.m. and check-out until 12:00 p.m. ＞ hotel is very suitable for those arriving by train, as there is almost no possibility of parking in Cologne's Südstadt district ＞ if you are arriving by car: a) Novotel, Bayenstraße 51 ＞＞ 19,- € per day ＞＞ approx. 750 m from the hotel b) Mercure Hotel, Severinstraße 199 ＞＞ 17,- € per day ＞＞ approx. 900 m from the hotel c) Severinsbrücke parking lot, Koelhoffstraße 1 ＞＞ 5,- € day ＞＞ approx. 1200 m from the hotel Location & surroundings Hotel is located in the densely built-up southern part of Cologne, where there are no free parking spaces available ＞＞ you have to rely on very expensive parking garages ＞ the hotel can't do anything about this, but we found everything quite expensive due to a trade fair (Düsseldorf), which has an impact as far as Cologne and causes hotel prices to explode Therefore the hotel is only 99% recommended for rail travelers Room Room 216 on the 2nd floor with a view of the inner courtyard 1) We had booked a BUSINESS double room and when we checked into the room, we were very surprised, as the online description for the business double room states: "Balcony with a view of the cathedral + air conditioning" ＞＞ There was NO balcony and NO view of the cathedral ＞＞ therefore incorrect information that urgently needs to be changed ＞� Air conditioning also not available in this double room When we complained at reception, the confirmed to me that the defects I reported are correct, as this floor and this business room do not have them 2) The bathroom is in the room with an open wall, which means that when you have showered, all the moisture comes into the room 3) The floor in the bed is made of natural stone - this means that if you want to walk barefoot in the bathroom, it is very cold, as there is no heating there 4) The beds consist of two single beds ON wheels, which means that they can be pushed apart 5) The trash cans (two) are very simple ＞＞ typical hardware store trash cans - not very stylish 6) During our stay we witnessed the following regarding the cleaning staff a) on the second cleaning day we came back at around 2:45 p.m. and the staff asked us if we needed new towels, even though the rooms should be cleaned daily ＞＞ then only the towels were changed b) on the third cleaning day we came back at around 3:30 p.m. and again no room had been cleaned and the toilet paper was empty - this shows that no one was in the room was ＞＞ finally we went to the reception at around 5:45 p.m. and mentioned this problem and they promised to remedy it, which was then carried out Service: Unfortunately I have to say "very bad": 1) the elevator has an inspection expiration date stamp inside, by when the next TÜV inspection must be carried out ＞＞ this status

Very nice, somewhat unusual hotel in the south of Cologne. The rooms are small and functional, but absolutely adequate for a city trip. The building appears to be historic, but the rooms are modern. The location is great if you want to stay off the beaten track. In the middle of the Severinsviertel there are many typical Cologne pubs nearby, as well as trendy restaurants and bars. We stayed there for two nights and were very satisfied.

Quietly located hotel close to a shopping street and plenty of restaurants. The room was not large, but very good use was made of the available space. Staff is friendly and provides good information (e.g. parking). Good breakfast, hot dishes could be warmer.
