Kamesei Ryokan

We stayed here for 4 nights in October 2024 and absolutely loved it. The accommodation is beautiful and clean. We used the private family onsen every night which was readily available every day for us to book a slot. It’s outside and was so relaxing and peaceful. We only had the breakfast here which was a traditional ryokan style breakfast. There are some lovely small, local places to eat in the area as well. We did a bike tour with Tyler on one of our days which we absolutely loved. He took us around the local town to areas we wouldn’t have normally seen otherwise. Tyler was so informative and it was so interesting. The locals were so friendly. We also visited Nagano and Zenkoji temple and Togakushi shrine and ninja village. Would recommend both of these day trips. Especially Togakushi which was beautiful and ninja village was so much fun. Would highly recommend staying at Kamesei ryokan. Tyler and his wife were so helpful and will assist with any queries you have and getting you to the train station and back. Thank you for having us!

I don't feel bad about the employees. I'm sure you are doing your best under difficult circumstances. However, there were many disappointing points from the guests' point of view, so I would like to write this down for reference for those who are making reservations in the future. ① The selling point is that it is a ``Taisho Romantic Bath'' where you can bathe in two types of hot springs at once, but because the partition between the two baths was low, the hot water mixed together and I could hardly tell the difference between the baths. The stained glass was just ``stained glass style'' with cellophane pasted on it, which was also disappointing. ② At dinner time, even though all the guests were gathered in one room, there was only one person serving the meals, and he never came when we called. ③ There were a lot of items for breakfast, but I didn't feel sorry for leaving so much, so I took my time and ate most of it. When we finally finished eating and talked for a while as a family, the person serving the meal came and said, ``If you would like to talk, please go to your room.'' It took 45 minutes after I started eating, which may be a long time for breakfast, but I didn't stay there for hours, so I felt a little uncomfortable. When I left the room, I heard the man who appeared to be the cook say to the person serving the food, ``What, you're done eating?'' and I regretted eating so hard. If it hadn't been for ③, I might not have thought this much, but since that happened, the shoji in the room was torn, and the sliding door in the closet near the entrance had suddenly fallen down (it had fallen off the threshold). It was left upright (I fixed it), but I no longer like it. If I had chosen a cheap hotel to stay in, I would have expected something like this, but at 23,000 yen per person, it feels like a cheap hotel for the price, including the facilities. There weren't many people staying, so I was able to take my time in the hot springs, and the food was good. Cleaning was also thorough.
