The Francis Marion hotel is in the perfect location for those who want to walk the city and be close to all the attractions and food. The hotel was clean and the service was wonderful. Parking was easy and the hotel gives guests a card that makes it more affordable, as well. I will definitely stay here again when visiting Charleston!

wonderful, historic hotel in perfect location

Staff at the front desk was a bit dismissive and parking costs $20/night. Breakfast not included but there’s a restaurant on site. Pros: - great location, close to attractions, restaurants, shops - Wifi works well - rooms are relatively clean however I found a few hairs here and there - rooms are spacious enough - Check-in is at 4pm officially but our room was ready at 2pm so we could check in - mini fridge in room - the hotel is nicely furnished and decorated - 24-hour fitness center - 2 complimentary bottles of water - Coffee machine in the room Cons: - staff at the front desk could’ve been friendlier - bed too soft and pillows too thick - A/C didn’t work properly—the room was either ice cold or hot

The Francis Marion is my favorite place to stay when I’m in Charleston. So much history and such an elegant hotel. Great value for your money.

Need to close and remodel

The location is very good. The facilities are old but clean. I have stayed here twice. Recommended!

Needless to say, the location is very convenient, so you don’t need to queue up for basic check-in internet celebrity restaurants, and you can walk there very conveniently. The facilities are a bit old, and the sanitation is acceptable

We stayed at the Francis Marion hotel several years ago and it was fabulous. This latest stay was more than disappointing. The hotel does not feel historic. It just feels old and tired, and definitely needs some spit shining, updating and more professional staff.

The hotel lobby is beautiful, and the room was charming and historic, but although there are two bathrooms (which is cool), they are really small and the toilets don’t flush well. We were charged extra for another person even though the beds are too small to fit a fourth person, so my son slept in a chair. There wasn’t enough coffee in the room, and when I requested more, it took over 20 minutes. We went to the lobby for coffee with lids and they had limited choice, and the hot water was out, so my daughter had a tea bag and cup with no tea. We were told to go to the restaurant for hot water, and there was a long line to get in, so no tea for her.

The property is a beautiful older hotel with a lot of character, a beautiful lobby and many amenties such as a restaurant, a great gym and spa. The hotel was centrally located, walking distance to many restaurants and shops, to the marketplace and the water. Staff were responsive to our needs and concerns.

Outstanding stay at the Francis Marion - property is beautiful and the perfect location for visiting Charleston!
