This hotel is just steps away from the metro entrance and across the street from Changsha Railway Station. The staff were very efficient and friendly at check in, apologizing for the nonworking elevator. But the hotel operators are criminally irresponsible in their maintenance of the fire doors opening into the emergency stairs. When I attempted to exit my third floor room, the doors were jammed shut in addition to the handle being broken. Only by throwing my body against the door was I able to open it. When I returned about an hour later, the doors were jammed again. It’s a sorry situation when hotel operators are so concerned about saving a little money on maintenance and local safety officials have so little motivation to do their jobs when lives could be lost as a result.
