Villa Curina Resort
4.6/557 Reviews
Curina Resort in Tuscany offers a truly warm and charming experience, reminiscent of an old-fashioned hotel where every detail transports you back in time. The rustic beauty of the property is matched only by the breathtaking scenery—open views of the rolling Tuscan countryside stretch as far as the eye can see, making every moment spent outdoors a feast for the senses. The service at Curina Resort is good, with the staff consistently working to ensure guests have a pleasant stay. The front desk ladies were particularly delightful, always ready with a smile and helpful advice on local attractions. The pool attendants were attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed for a relaxing day by the large, inviting pool. The breakfast staff also contributed to the positive experience with their friendly demeanor and the excellent spread they provided each morning. While the breakfast is generally enjoyable, it's worth noting that a second coffee at breakfast is charged separately. Although I understand the reasoning—there is a complimentary coffee pot available to avoid overindulgence—it still felt a bit stingy for a 4-star hotel, where such small luxuries are usually included. The on-site restaurant offers delicious food, and while there is a policy requiring a minimum of two dishes per person, it didn't significantly detract from the overall dining experience, which was otherwise enjoyable. It’s also worth mentioning that Curina Resort is not the place for those seeking modern amenities or sleek, contemporary design. Its charm lies in its traditional style and historic atmosphere, making it ideal for those who appreciate an old-world feel. Overall, Curina Resort is a delightful choice for those seeking a tranquil escape with a touch of old-world charm, supported by a team of genuinely caring staff. The stunning views and serene environment make it a perfect Tuscan retreat.
Castel Monastero - the Leading Hotels of the World

Potentially amazing but very poorly managed! I stayed (I’m still here as I’m writing) for 3 days on a road trip in Italy with the family. The service before coming gave me very high expectations with pre-check-in and a nice brochure of activities to do while we are here. Unfortunately that’s not what happened, here are some of my experiences: 1. We booked 2 prestige rooms but nowhere it states that some rooms are inside the 13th century building and others are in an extension outside the main gate, the beautiful view from the pics you see in the photo gallery are obviously different. So make sure to ask when you book. 2. The day we arrived we went straight to the pools which are great for family with beautiful environment but we first ordered sparkling water and were given plastic bottles without glasses or ice. I ordered a burger which arrived without any topping like salad or sauce , we then realized that the burger was probably for another table. I didn’t care, just thought that waiter couldn’t speak English or was inexperienced but no problem we are on holidays after all. Bear in mind that the burger was something like 25 euro. 3. Breakfast- that was one of the most comical scene, the waiters looked confused, we asked for coffee multiple times after 20 min we get served a full coffee cup of espresso instead of coffee, after trying the fake orange juice from the “fresh orange juice” I asked are real fresh juice which arrived at the end where people asked us twice if we had finished, making us wanting to leave so they could clear the table. There is very little selection of fruits, very average selection of breads and the most crazy thing in a luxury hotel, if you don’t want the commercial scramble eggs you have to pay to get an omelette!!! The service was so poor I decided to cancel our dinner at the hotel not wanting to relive that same experience. 4. The jacuzzi area is closing at 7pm, so today we swam till 6:30pm but when we tried to reach the jacuzzi I was told by a lady that she closed it because she had no one to look after it. You can come back tomorrow. What kind of answer is that? 5. The mini bar & laundry service prices are just ridiculous, I ll upload it here later but from memory it’s like 12 euro to was one underwear. I went to complain to front office following another lady who was doing the same. The table next to us at breakfast were laughing about it as it was so bizarre. The facilities are amazing but at this level of pricing you expect a very different level of service.
Borgo San Felice

We tried to organize our wedding at Borgo San Felice this past summer, and, frankly, it was quite the ordeal. From the start, we were limited by the number of guests allowed in their small chapel, and any mention of extra guests caused panic. Then, we were told that everyone attending the wedding in the chapel had to stay at Borgo San Felice, which wasn’t ideal and definitely expensive. But we agreed and asked how many rooms were available, booking them all. A few days later, a dear friend—after I had specifically told her to look elsewhere for accommodation—was able to book a room for several days. How was I supposed to feel about that? I didn’t want her thinking we didn’t want her there. This attention to detail clearly wasn’t a priority for the events department. Next, we hit a major issue with the wedding cake. Their chef refused to make a real four-tier cake unless we had at least 100 guests, which would cost 4,000 euros. That didn’t sit right with us, so we arranged for a cake from Siena for less than 800 euros, which was excellent. However, Borgo San Felice doesn’t allow outside food or beverages, meaning it was their 4,000-euro cake or nothing. But the biggest issue? Borgo San Felice couldn’t accommodate a wedding dinner at all. There was no venue on-site that could host more than 20 guests for lunch (a wedding dinner was totally negative), despite the spacious appearance of the property in photos. When I asked for help finding a restaurant off-site for dinner and dancing. It took 10 days for a response (for 20 people), and we ended up doing most of the work ourselves. Shouldn't a relais chateau have a concirge make a phone call to book a venue? When looking for a restaurant for our dinner party we actually found a last-minute venue that was wonderful, but due to the restrictions, we couldn’t invite many of our European friends, because it was too late. To top it off, they initially refused to refund the rooms when we decided not to stay there. After insistence, they finally agreed to refund 50%, or offered a voucher for 100% of the amount to be used over the next year. A voucher. As if we would ever go. It’s a shame they didn’t immediately offer a full refund after such poor service. In a situation like this, after so many mistakes and miscommunication, have a little class— refund 100% of the cost and offer a free weekend as a gesture of goodwill. In the U.S., these guys wouldn’t survive six months. I’m leaving out many more frustrating details, but I simply don’t have the time. My advice? If you’re not ready to host weddings, just don’t. A once-in-a-lifetime event deserves better, we were leaving a good 30K on the table. Probably nothing for Borgo San Felice.
Hotel le Fontanelle

We stayed here for 3 nights during a Backroads cycling trip in Tuscany. Our room (21) was in an outbuilding steps from the pool. We did not have a view of the pool or of the magnificent wine country. In fact, we had no view at all. The accommodations were very rustic and dated - this is not a luxury hotel. The views from the common areas of the hotel are spectacular and the decor in the common areas appears to have been updated; but our room was desperate for a refresh, a new mattress, and a deep cleaning. We ate 3 breakfasts at the hotel which were all ok, albeit nothing special. We ate 1 dinner at the hotel which was ok, at best. We did enjoy 1 lovely dinner at their winery on the property (accessible by a quick 5 minute drive). The winery tour, the wine tasting and the dinner were all fantastic. I would not return to this hotel on a future trip to Tuscany.
