We were booked here as part of a 12 day tour. It was myself and my 16 year old daughter and upon arriving they needed to separate the queen bed into 2 beds. Been on the books for weeks, no big deal, the staff were *very* nice. This is a very old hotel referring to being hundreds of years old. It was very interesting to look at and tour but the rooms felt very old. For us it was the unusable WiFi that caused us to move to an airport hotel as we were leaving the next day. I do WiFi for a living so spoke to manager and they knew it barely worked and I explained how easy it was to fix, but it seems they are trying to sell the property so expect nothing to be upgraded. We were flying home the next day so downloading things were very important and they are a cellular 'hole' so could not use my phone for data either. We did not try the in-house hotel, but did eat on the smaller restaurant on the property and it was pretty good. Strange, the very small staff looked all under 21 and sure enough the food we ordered wasn't what showed up, but they sorted it all out and it was pretty good. You can walk into town from the street. Don't try the river walk (which they are close to) as the path we were sent down ended with barbed wire.. Hence we walked all the way back to the street. We ended up asking guide to just move to a modern hotel by the airport and that's what happened. Didn't ask for money back, just took the cost. Hotel just wasn't for us and our experience is our own.

Quirky - room was lovely. Staff great - nothing too much trouble. Evening meals were fabulous (restaurant and bistro), breakfast by far the best we've had in a hotel. Good location for exploring. Dentist opposite entrance (needed for tooth extraction!!)...

We had a beautiful meal tonight inthe potting shed bistro. Food and service was great although the area was bit untidy outside , scattered chairs etc and candles inside unlit - which was a thing I remembered was loveky from previous visits . Fairy lights weren’t working outside , I felt the ambience lacked a bit from previous visits , not a biggy and didn’t take away from the beautiful meal however bit more care and attention to these detials would have made such a difference and wouldn’t take much time !

The staff were very welcoming, the hotel was clean and the breakfast was very good! Very disappointed with our room, so dark! It was quite expensive, it’s a shame, it has so much potential. … Maybe Alex Polizzi could pop by! (Hotel Inpector) Won’t be back

This is a quaint hotel in a very private, yet conveniently-located area of Callender. A hidden gem is its "Potting Shed" cafe/restaurant. We enjoyed one of the best meals of our trip at this quiet dining spot. You will find the service at this hotel extraordinary and you'll discover the staff to be courteous, helpful and friendly. They will go out of their way to make you feel welcomed and comfortable.

Came across this hidden gem when looking for somewhere to have a late lunch after a walk to Bracklinn Falls. We saw the sign from the road, went in on spec and wow! So glad we did. This place is like a little wonderland just seconds from the main road. We had lunch in the Potting Shed, followed by a walk in the grounds which have direct access to the river. The menu had everything from light snacks, main courses, sandwiches and desserts and it was no trouble for them to adjust the sandwich to my liking. The service was really quick and the waitress very friendly indeed. A first visit from us but definitely not the last if we're in the area again.
