Stayed one evening at the Old Ship in Brighton to attend a wedding reception.  The hotel location of is excellent and conveniently situated near shops and bars.  Also opposite the beach. The decor of the hotel is a bit tired and is need of a face lift.  But for the money we paid it was value for money and we would rebook in the future.

It’s okay nice location right on the beach. Staff were friendly and professional, hygiene was okay but there were a couple of hairs on towels. Breakfast was okay a small cooked breakfast on offer(no veggie sausages available upon request) cereal offered with alternative milk available upon request. Rooms a little outdated but overall good experience. Limited car park available at Hotel £27 a day or £4.50 per hour but you have to leave keys with concierge as they move cars around to fit them in. Original lift pretty cool

It is very difficult to park and it is loud during the weekends and holidays. But the location is good.
Response from Property: Dear Si-il,Thank you for posting your positive review. At The Old Ship Hotel, we value your time and always strive to provide fast and efficient service. It’s fantastic to know that you had a wonderful experience with us.Myself, and the team, go to great lengths to try and ensure all our guests enjoy their stay with us although there are some things we cannot control, and outside noise is unfortunately one of those things. We are very lucky to be situated on Brighton’s seafront. As unparalleled as it is though, we are in a city which offers as much nightlife as day life and so silence at night can never be guaranteed. Whilst we can certainly do our best to control internal noise, what happens off the premises is a little more difficult for any hotel along the Kings Road to control. Still, I am sorry it had such an impact on your stay.I do hope that you will consider a return visit when you come back to our wonderful city of Brighton. On your next visit, we would be happy to assign one of our quieter, internal rooms upon request.Kind regardsNick BagshawDuty Manager

The room for what we paid fell well short of our expectations. The overall finish was tired, the carpet dirty and one of the lights in the bathroom help in place with a bit of gauze. The breakfast was lovely as was the downstairs area in the hotel. The lift was filthy as were the ladies toilets. All in all really disappointed..
Response from Property: Dear Lynn,Thank you for taking the time to write your review. On behalf of my entire team, I would like to apologise for not exceeding your expectations. Your satisfaction and business are very important to us, and we value your feedback. Before replying, I had passed the listed details to our maintenance and housekeeping managers who are in the process of rectifying the issues. I can certainly assure you that at The Old Ship Hotel we do our upmost to get problems resolved to ensure that future guests do not have to experience the same issues.I sincerely apologise and hope you keep in contact with us so we may be able to improve on your next stay with us.Kind regardsNick BagshawDuty Manager

We stayed at this hotel as we had a wedding not too far away about 15 minute drive away. Booking a taxi was a nightmare to get home as there are not many options so as you can imagine a wedding with 100 guests or more all trying to get a cab wasn’t successful and we had to wait over an hour to get a taxi. The room was cute and clean. People at the bar and restaurant was nice but the reception was a nightmare. They were very short staff so checking out was taking forever so we just left without checking out and let the keys on the desk.
Response from Property: Dear Reviewer,Thank you for your review and for choosing our hotel. We appreciate your feedback and are delighted to know you enjoyed your stay with us.We regret that we did not deliver our usual standard of service with regards to our reception on check-out. On behalf of the reception team, I would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused, please rest assured that we are taking the appropriate measures to address the problem. I hope you keep in contact with us so we may be able to improve your next stay with us.Kind regardsNick BagshawDuty Manager

old.....a bit rundown ..lifts not working, needed to carry suitcases up and down stairs...computer system not working properly
Response from Property: Dear Reviewer,Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at The Old Ship Hotel. We are very sorry to hear that we fell short of your expectations and that your experience was not a positive one. Please note that our establishment is housed within a historic building dating back to the 16th century. While we take immense pride in preserving the rich heritage and charm of the property, we also recognise the importance of ensuring that our accommodations meet the modern standards expected by our guests. Our lifts were installed in 1920 (maintained on a regular basis), they are fully working but a little slower compared to modern lifts.Plans have been approved by Brighton City Council & various historical trusts for The Old Ship Hotel to undergo a major renovation (full details & dates to be confirmed). The renovation will include upgrading our lifts and all areas of the hotel.Perhaps sometime in the future, when the hotel has undergone some refurbishment, you might consider giving us another try.Kind regardsNick BagshawDuty Manager

Good location. Good breakfast but room is too old. Building is too old. Lift is old.
Response from Property: Dear Reviewer,Thank you for choosing The Old Ship Hotel. We’re glad to hear that you were satisfied with your experience.I can confirm that we intend to do a full refurbishment of the hotel, and as such, a design has been created, and currently, the extensive works are out for tender. The tendering process can be lengthy, and as such, we do not have a definite date of when we will be in a position to agree on a contractor/contractors who will carry out the works. We intend to keep trading and operating throughout the development, and as such, it will be business as usual. We hope you keep in contact with us so we may be able to improve your next stay with us.Kind regardsNick BagshawDuty Manager

Says it has parking, but only has very limited parking available. They are definitely misleading you, because I wouldn’t have booked this hotel if it didn’t have a parking spot. Oh and when they do have parking spots available then they charge you 25£ to use it. I had to park in some sleazy parking lot which charged me 32£ and walk a distance to this hotel. Nothing was spectacular or nice here, was a bit of a dive actually, definitely not worth 200£ for the night!!!
Response from Property: Dear Reviewer,Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We’re disappointed to hear that our hotel wasn’t exactly to your liking. Whilst we appreciate that our traditional nature is not to everyone’s taste, we are always deeply sorry when anything happens to spoil the excitement of our guests stay. We strive to be transparent about all fees and charges, we do state on all our booking sites such as Booking.com/Expedia and our own website that there is a charge for parking at the hotel. Unfortunately, Brighton has become a very expensive place to park. Our pricing is very competitive with similar properties in this area and we feel that we offer good value given our central city seafront location and facilities. We are the oldest hotel in the city of Brighton dating back to the year 1559. The Old Ship has the lucky advantage of being able to accommodate a car park for our guests (due to the space in previous years being a stable for horses & reconfigured for cars in the 1920's). We hope you give us another chance soon, so we can share a more positive experience. Kind regardsNick BagshawDuty Manager
