The second stop of the Kitakyushu trip in Japan was to the Grand Base Beppu Hotel in Beppu. The hotel is about 700m from Beppu Station, within walking distance. The hotel is an apartment-type hotel with a full set of kitchen equipment, washing machine, etc. The room is large and has three beds, two large and one small, which can accommodate 5 people. The toiletries are very simple, only towels and toothbrushes. The most important thing to mention is that this is a hotel with completely self-service check-in and check-out. There is no waiter in sight, and the door is closed. You can only enter through a password, and the self-service check-in window (a video interactive screen ) is located inside. The most critical question is, if I book the hotel on Ctrip, I should be given (received) an access code and check-in registration, and then get a room password after successful registration. However, Ctrip never gave me any password, instructions or prompts (email/text message). It wasn't until I arrived at the door that I realized this was a fully self-service hotel. After carefully reading the instructions in English and Japanese at the door, I found out whether I needed to register and left my contact number. Being rogue, I had no choice but to initiate an international call to contact the hotel (by the way, it would be really annoying if you don’t understand Japanese or English). After entering, I obtained the access code and communicated the check-in method after entering, and obtained the registration code. After waiting for two calls totaling nearly half an hour (costing an additional fee of nearly RMB 30 yuan), I finally completed the check-in of two rooms. If you encounter such a situation, it is entirely Ctrip’s responsibility!

It was my first time using the service and I was confused at the entrance and check-in, but I was glad that support was available right away. I wanted to clean the bathroom because it wasn't well-maintained, but I wish I had cleaning tools (though foreigners probably wouldn't do that). I was concerned about trash in the drawers and dust in the crevices of the bed. Overall, I think the location is good and the building is new and clean.

very bad! The only thing for sure is the facilities, but don't let the photos fool you. Since there is no elevator and you have to carry large luggage up and down the stairs, guests with luggage need to think twice. The toilet and bathroom are separate, but the ventilation is very poor! In addition, there is no replacement service because there is no front desk staff or cleaning staff. It is not friendly enough for travelers, even if they want to store their luggage! So I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else. The most speechless thing is that when you get to the hotel, you can't enter because you don't have the correct check-in password. It's really unimaginable!
