Personal opinion as a Asian female solo traveler.
Great location: around 5 mins walk from Beppu station. There are a lot of restaurants and 2 Lawson nearby. It's super easy to have access to food. Their lobby cafe also serves good coffee.
Exterior: I heard they renovated the hotel recently, so the building and rooms and onsen all look new and classic.
Room: clean, neat, a bit small but acceptable. Especially appreciate that there is an air purifier in the room without prior/extra request.
Amenities facilities: You name it, they have it. More than just basic amenities. Especially appreciate ice maker on the 4th floor and self-service of skin products on the 1st floor, they have good sunscreen.
Front desk: They don't speak much English, but they really try their best. Wonderful hospitality. Especially the elderly staffs. Super friendly and welcoming.
Overall, it is more than a nice option for a budget hotel. If ever stop by Beppu in the future, i would be happy to stay again.
Kamenoi Hotel Beppu is conveniently located near the JR station and main bus terminal, making it easy to travel to various parts of the city, including Beppu's Jigoku, via public transport.
The hotel features a hot spring bath, perfect for the adventurous traveller looking to relax after a day of exploration.
The rooms are more spacious than the typical Japanese hotel, which is especially beneficial for those travelling with children or large luggage.
The hotel design is very unique, and the room planning is outstanding, offering large and comfortable spaces for both sleeping and general relaxation. The private onsen has 2 large glazed doors that open directly to the private terrace, plus a full width and height glazing, enabling the feeling of enjoying an external onsen.
The staff can communicate well in English and is very friendly and helpful.
The one observation that the hotel management can review is on the lighting in the luggage space, it is sensor operated, as one needs to organize the luggage for sometimes, the short duration of lighting on is not sufficient for the packing, please consider having the lighting be changed to manual operation. Otherwise, well done.

A perfect hotel. Very clean, sufficient carpark. Everything looks new and I particularly like the wood floor.
Buffet dinner has a lot of food choices and the breakfast is very good too. See view room and the room is very big. Highly recommended and will come to stay again.

Second hotel visited.
The facilities are just a neat ryokan hotel that is a bit old.
1 small bath and 1 larger bath in another building (This is a place where not only guests but also outsiders come to take a bath, free for overnight guests)
There is also an open-air bath.
However, breakfast and dinner are buffet style, and there are many kinds of food and the quality is very, very good. So, I went back to the hotel for the buffet.
The location of the hotel is very convenient, the room is very spacious, it is right next to Beppu Station, about 3 minutes walk away, very close to the supermarket, and there is also a 71 convenience store next to it, which is super convenient! Just be sure to notify the platform in advance to get the password when checking in, and be sure to make sure which one you booked, because there are 4 hotels of this type around Beppu Station, and we went to another one. If you want to experience a homestay and want to cook by yourself, it is recommended to stay here! 👍👍👍👍
This spacious accommodation is ideal for a family getaway with several members. It was tidy and cozy, making it a pleasant place to stay with my kids. The highlight was the garden outside and the large windows that let in the morning sun, creating a lovely atmosphere for breakfast while gazing outside. Unfortunately, the hot spring was out of order when we got there, but it appeared to be large enough for two people to enjoy. I was initially concerned that the size of the apartment would make it chilly upon arrival, but the heating system was effective, and the place warmed up quickly.

I'm a little surprised by this hotel
Good things: The location is very close to the attractions, the owner is very friendly
Bad points (difficult to improve): The hotel was relatively deserted, and we were the only family in the entire building at that time. There is a broken house next to the parking lot (No. 2), which is very scary at night. The cooking area outside is very slow. It is recommended not to use it.
Areas that need improvement: There is no hot water for bathing in the room, there is no hot water for bathing in the bathhouse, and the men's bathhouse was forgotten for us.
This time we are staying on the 2nd floor. It is generally very clean and comfortable. However, the traffic on the floor will be a little louder and will affect the downstairs, so you have to slow down. It is also recommended to add protective covers on the stool legs to reduce the sound. In addition, the kitchen is well-equipped and clean.

BBoonyanuch KrikunI recently stayed at Kannawaen Sanso Ryokan, and it was a truly remarkable experience. From the moment I arrived, the staff’s warm hospitality made me feel welcomed and relaxed. The ryokan is set in a beautiful, serene location, surrounded by nature, offering a peaceful retreat from daily life.
The room was spacious and tastefully decorated in traditional Japanese style, blending modern comforts with authentic charm. The private onsen attached to my room was a highlight, allowing me to unwind in soothing hot springs while taking in the picturesque views.
What truly sets Kannawaen apart is the attention to detail and personalized service. The staff went out of their way to ensure everything was perfect, making me feel truly cared for throughout my stay.
If you’re looking for a luxurious, tranquil getaway with impeccable service and a true Japanese experience, I highly recommend Kannawaen Sanso Ryokan. It’s a place we would love to visit again.
Note: they provide shuttle from/to station with time slot! Convenient

GGuest UserThe best room throughout my trip in Kyushu. Size wise, you have plenty of space to flat open 28” luggage. Bed wise, nice firmness. Cleanliness wise, outstanding.
The room has functioning AC so you can always cater the temperature to your preference. They also prepare a pair of pajamas for you to use, so don’t worry about bringing too many clothes.
Breakfast is aplenty, with a lot of seafood & vegetarian options.
For Muslim travellers, halal restaurant is 1km away, and is accessible on foot, or Uber.
They have onsen, and coin operated laundry facility.
No complaint at all. Staff are so accommodating and attentive.
GGuest UserThe room is quite big, except that the pillow is a bit hard😂 It costs 1350 yen to take a taxi from Beppu. Someone will pick you up as soon as you get off the car. The staff is very enthusiastic. The hotel has a new building, Tsukijisang, and an old building, Qiujisang. The one I stayed in was the old building. When I went there, the staff carried my luggage up. When I checked out, the staff also carried the last staircase down. They were so polite that I felt embarrassed! Every dish for dinner will be introduced. The wagyu beef is very delicious, but the breakfast is not very appetizing😁! For soup, there are four private soups and two public baths, separated by men and women! If you don't want to live near the JR station, you can consider staying here!
Oonlywinxit's a small homey inn, amazing for cat lovers. you get to spend 1h in a room full of super friendly cats. their homemade breakfast and dinner is delicious and very filling - you even get to eat next to another room of cats!
the only downside is the location, which is 1 short train station (comes every 40mins) away from beppu station. it's a bit in the residential area, and the walk from higashibeppu station can get a bit quiet and dark, but overall still a great place to stay!
밥밥잘먹고잠푹자자It takes a little over 2 hours by Sonic Express train from Fukuoka Hakata Station to Beppu Station. And Beppu hotel check-in is at 3pm.
Then it would be a good idea to have lunch in Fukuoka and then take the train in the afternoon.
So, in the morning, I went to Mutsukato on the 5th floor of Amu Plaza at Hakata Station and started with a sandwich and coffee. After eating, I went to Geumja Optical Shop on the 7th floor of the same building to look at glasses. I really liked the small, Kim Gu-style glasses that I liked, but they were expensive. Jins Glasses on the 5th floor is cheap, but I don't like it.
Finally, I took the Sonic Express from Hakata Station and arrived at Beppu Station two hours later.
Go out from the side exit and walk for 10 minutes to arrive at Nogami Honkan. Although the facility is old, it is cleanly maintained and the owner is friendly. Because the room is made of tatami mats, it has a peculiar jeep-like smell. I had a hard time sleeping on the first day, but I slept well on the second day, probably because I was tired.
Pay 500 yen for 50 minutes in the family bath and relax.
Near the hotel, there are Toyo-san and Doraya, which sell Japanese set meals, and I went to both. It’s a delicious restaurant. The cost-effectiveness is also very good.
If you like a tatami room, go here.
GGLfifiStaff was friendly and helpful even though some couldn't converse in fluent English. Room was clean and we had a beautiful view of the sea. We even caught the sun rise!
Onsen both indoors and outdoors were clean. I enjoyed the outdoors onsen more because of the lovely Seaview from the rooftop. Breakfast was nice. Only complaint was that the futon was too thin, I could feel the floor. Otherwise it was a lovely stay
AAnonymous UserExcellent location. Take the bus from Fukuoka Airport and get off at Beppu Kitahama. The hotel is right next to you. Although the room is small, it is very clean and comfortable, and the sound insulation is also good. It fully meets the needs of one person. There are indoor and outdoor hot spring baths on the second floor of the hotel. It is very comfortable to soak in the evening after walking during the day. The Japanese breakfast is delicious, and the service staff is polite, friendly and thoughtful. There are also two Western-style family restaurants next to the hotel, Jolly Pasta and Royal Host. The price is reasonable, and you can eat satisfactory at 130 per person. I will stay here again when I come to Beppu next time!
GGuest UserThe receptionist was courteous. The other staff members were also considerate. The rooms are clean and have plenty of amenities. The breakfast was luxurious and filling.
LLeeI stayed with my family during our trip to Beppu, and it exceeded all my expectations. We wanted to experience a traditional-style Ryokan, and this was the perfect choice. The staff were incredibly kind and attentive, ensuring that everything was well managed.
One of the highlights was the ability to reserve a private bath, which made the experience even more relaxing. The breakfast was delicious and thoughtfully prepared. The atmosphere was peaceful and calm, making it an ideal place to rest and unwind.
The location is also convenient—just a 7-10 minute taxi ride from Beppu Station. I highly recommend this Ryokan to anyone looking for an authentic and relaxing stay in Beppu!
