Disappointing Stay at Grand Hyatt Beijing – Mixed Experience with Room Quality and Service My two-night stay at the Grand Hyatt Beijing at Oriental Plaza began with significant disappointment regarding the room’s quality and size. The room, which was supposed to accommodate one king-size bed and one single bed, felt cramped—almost like being inside a box. The furniture was outdated, and the entire room had a musty, aged smell. We were thoroughly unimpressed by its appearance. To make matters worse, upon check-in, the room didn’t even have a single bed as promised—just a small couch. When we returned to the reception to address the issue, the two staff members, Alan and Elsa, seemed visibly annoyed by our concerns. Alan stopped engaging with us altogether, responding with an angry huff while typing aggressively on his computer. The other staff member, Elsa, struggled to communicate in English, making the situation even more frustrating. We requested a room with two single beds, as we didn’t want our child sleeping on the small portable bed they offered. Given the poor initial experience, we decided to cancel our second night. However, the staff then called over their colleague, Yulia, who was far more professional and polite. She resolved the issue by upgrading us to an apartment-style room. That said, this was my first time encountering such outdated and cramped facilities in a five-star hotel. The room felt more like a budget guesthouse than a luxury accommodation, especially considering the high price—comparable to what I’d pay at the Four Seasons, Shangri-La, or Ritz-Carlton. Fortunately, after Yulia stepped in, our stay improved. The apartment was much better, and we were able to enjoy the rest of our time there. On a positive note, the breakfast and restaurant offerings were good, with a wide variety of options, and the room service provided decent value for the price. Would I stay here again? I’m not sure. While Yulia’s professionalism salvaged the experience, the initial issues with room quality and staff attitude were significant drawbacks.

We had a lovely stay. The staff were friendly and helpful. Room was clean and spacious and the breakfast buffet was fantastic as there were a lot of dishes to choose from not to mention the hotel’s accessibility to the shopping malls. Just one thing that we think might need improvement— the coffee at the breakfast area. The lady Barista who seemed to be the supervisor served us terrible coffee. We opted to have it from the coffee bar even if there were automatic coffee machines around, coz we wanted Oatmilk latte. (we are very much particular about our morning coffee) But she prepared it without paying attention — using the same frother cup with dairy milk!😌- Oatmilk not frothed enough- latte had lots of bubbles and was watery. (even the coffee cup had spilled coffee and I had to wipe it myself) it seems like a Little thing but should be given proper attention and service as this is Grand Hyatt Beijing.

Grand Hyatt Beijing in Dongcheng is an excellent choice for travelers seeking both comfort and convenience. Its prime location near two metro stations and within walking distance to Wangfujing makes it easy to explore the city. The views from the rooms are appealing, offering glimpses of the bustling main street, though some traffic noise can be heard. A highlight of the hotel is the impressive swimming pool, which boasts excellent facilities, making it a must-visit. The rooms are clean and feature soft, comfortable bedding, even if they show a bit of age. Breakfast options are decent, providing a wide range of food, although the menu could benefit from more frequent updates. While WiFi access is limited by China's Great Firewall, preventing some websites from being accessed, the overall experience at Grand Hyatt Beijing is highly enjoyable, making it a great option for visitors to the city.

The location is perfect, connected with shopping mall and subway station. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. They let us leave the room at 4 pm instead at midday without additional charge. The English speaking lady and Mr. Allan at the reception are very professional.

Well the location is great. You get a bunch of food around. Hotel looks nice and is nice. Near to the forbidden city unfortunately was there at night couldn’t get it. Will stay here again. It’s pretty expensive but hey, location location location. Can’t complain, will stay again.
