Villa Moorings

The building and grounds are historic and beautiful. The service is excellent with the hotel staff looking to be as helpful as possible. The breakfast was what you would expect at a good Italian venue. Our room had an AC which is a must in August weather. We also got some beautiful views of the mountains from our windows. The hotel is not too far from some great hikes if you like being outdoors (about 25-35 min drive away) and is also walking distance from the main restaurant area. While we had a pleasant stay, we were surprised at how dated our room, furnishings and bathroom were. The bed was also hard. We also would have appreciated a heads up in advance that there would be a jazz concert on the grounds the night we arrived as we were quite exhausted from the trip only to find out we would be going to bed as early as we would have liked (to note the concert was free for guests so def a perk if you aren't tired and look fwd to some fun entertainment).

We visited Villa Moorings in 2019 and it was as lovely as ever in 2024. Everything is beautiful, peaceful and comfortable here, and Beatrice and her team are wonderful hosts. The house is amazing, the views are fantastic and the pool is perfect. Our room was spacious and spotless with everything we needed. It’s well located a short walk from the old town but away from the hustle and bustle of Barga, and handy for cafes and food shops for lunch. We had a wonderful stay and will be back again.

We travelled as a family of four, myself my husband and two daughters aged 6 and 3. We had a delightful welcome. The staff were very accommodating and kind. They helped with many queries before and during our stay. The hotel has retained many old features which is lovely to see, there is AC in the rooms, the water is always lovely and hot. The beds were comfortable and rooms were clean. The breakfast was pleasant and eggs are cooked to order. We thoroughly enjoyed the choice of music played at breakfast. The bedrooms were very spacious, we stayed on the top floor attic and my daughters had their own room which was beautiful too. If you would like a view from the windows I'd suggest a mid floor. The pool was nice and cool and there are always loungers available. The old town was easily walkable but there are many steep inclines for those who are less able. My two girls managed the walk fine. There are plenty of restaurants within the town to choose from, these were average. The town is quiet even in peak season so if you're looking for a quiet sleepy medieval italian town for pleasant walks this would be the right place. Villa moorings hotel is highly recommended for your stay.

A delightful old villa in the quiet town of Barga. The building is a step back in time but with the added benefit of air conditioning. The staff also offer the most friendly personal service. They genuinely care that you feel comfortable and will help you in any way. Breakfast is beautifully presented and they cater for dietary needs. I have to mention the music playlist at breakfast. If you like classic rock/pop/jazz then you’ll love the atmosphere here.

We had a lovely time staying in Beatrice's hotel situated in Barga. Very impressive building with nice rooms and balcony overlooking the Serchio Valley. Great place to be based for exploring Northern Tuscany. The surrounding hill towns are beautiful and very quiet. The Scottish connection with Barga is fascinating. Special thanks to Beatrice and Nadia and all other staff for making us feel so welcome!

What can I say, if you want Premier Inn rooms dont come here. This is the real deal. Built in 1927 as a family home (the pool wasnt there then) it is wonderful. It is so unique to stay in a small hotel like this. Beatrice and Anna Rosa were wonderful hosts. We stayed in the mothers room and had a beautiful view of the countryside. Situation was terrific to explore Barga. Lots of walks up the narrow lanes to the Duomo. Very Scottish connection in Barga. Lots of nice restaurants and bars to visit. The pool area was an unexpected surprise (cold) but very nice. The view from the belveder was amazing (360 degree). Please stay here if you are in the area.
