Nick's Homestay

Very nice Balinese homestay, central location but quite, with a garden that feels remote. Comfortable, spacious and tidy room, kind, caring and helpful staff. Beautiful traditional setting with pool and air-conditioned room with comfortable bed.

Our first time staying here and won't be our last. We travelled as a family of 4 and chose to stay in a homestay to heighten our experience of how some locals live. Nick's homestay impressed us. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted by staff who assisted with luggage. The homestay is set on one massive block of land and separated into several small villas / huts. A beautiful Balinese garden surrounds the entire homestay and within it lives fish ponds, butterflies, frogs, a few birds and a cat. The warm tropical weather we experienced against the backdrop of the gardens etc made the small swimming pool very refreshing. We used the pool several times a day typically in the morning and late afternoon to cool down. Our room was very spacious and light filled. The air-conditioned room was great. Our room had two big beds (queen?) which were soft and comfortable. Both beds had mosquito nets which were great to help keep the mosquitos away. I would suggest buying mosquito spray from a local supermarket market and spraying the room prior to bed time to help keep mosquitos away. Dont get the wrong idea, there were not that many to worry about. It was great to meet Nick and a few of his family. Although it is his family's place, you would not know it. Only the odd passing through of family in and out as they lived their normal lives. We did not at all feel like we were infringing on their family nor that they were watching over us. We had our own villa / big room and we felt like we were living in a small hotel. Our privavcy and the families privacy was never compromised. There were also other tourists living in the other rooms available and everyone always said hello to each other. Breakfast was a nice and simple affair with the highlight being a fresh and tasty fruit salad accompanying each meal. Nick's homestay is on a main road with plenty of cafes, restaurants, small supermarkets all walking distance. Despite entering the homestay from the busy main road, the homestay is set back quite a bit, and you do not hear or see the traffic at all.

Booked a year in advance but they gave our room away to someone else and downgraded us. They gave our room to a walk-in the day before we arrived and tried to give us a twin instead of the deluxe double that was booked, we would not take a twin so we're out in a downgraded basic room with a small double and a single bed. The room was dirty and had a musty smell probably because the bathroom windows went up to a store room not outside. The owner point blank refused to give any discount, despite one of the wardrobe doors falling off while we were there. Also while there the owner went for a swim in the pool provided we did not use the pool after that as in the 10 minutes he was in there the hocked up at least 3 phelmy spit balls he then spat into the pool and pushed towards the gutter. The site is lovely and peaceful and for that reason we accepted the downgraded room in the first place and after a day of travelling did not want to be scouring websites for another place to stay nearby, also not realising they would still be charging us for a nice room while we stayed in a cheap room. The staff however were fantastic, turning lights on for us at night, if they saw we were up early they would offer us breakfast early and were generally really good.

An escape from the hustle and bustle of so much of Bali. Beautiful rooms, great and friendly staff who help you plan your trip. Kenyat was exceptionally helpful, helped me organise tickets to a local fire festival, and organised friendly local tour guides to get the most out of my time in Ubud.

Such a lovely place and excellent value for money. The host and everyone who works there are kind, fun and always ready to help with anything you need. The gardens and all the display of Balinese culture on the grounds are incredible. Next to the monkey Forrest, and all the shops, restaurants, spas and tattoos parlours surround nick’s place. Very nice comfy bed, and clean room and bathroom, I had a room with a balcony where monkeys scared me shitless but made my 10 days stay eventful and exotic! And I now know i don’t really get on with monkeys. Far too clever for me! They jumped you and robbed you! I will defo stay there again when back in Ubud
