The Hotel just went through a name change back in October 2019 as per management. We stayed in one of the three rooms near the pool area, which made it very convenient to access the terrace, pool, and appreciate the overview of the Nile. The facilities are very nice and well kept. The room was very spacious with a couple of things to be improved, The shower drain required unclogged since it almost over flooded and the AC was inoperative, thankfully temps in March respect at night and it wasn't required, and also noise was a problem at night since people are allowed in the pool area till the late hours. The staff was very hospitable and helped us plan a trip to Luxor with stop in a few temples.
Step into the legendary site where King Fouad once entertained and Agatha Christie sipped cocktails: the 5-star Sofitel Legend Old Cataract Aswan Hotel. In the Nubian Desert on the banks of the Nile, opposite Elephantine Island, the majestic hotel sits on a pink granite cliff overlooking the world's longest river. This ravishing hotel with its legendary guest list of royals and dignitaries is both ideal for romantic getaways, and a perfect venue for small summits and corporate meetings.

Magical property in magical land. Extremely professional and accommodating staff and service. The ground floor spa equally impressive where I enjoyed full body massage on consecutive days. One small issue with thermostat was dealt with promptly and to full satisfaction. I don’t believe you can improve upon The Old Cataract in any stay in Aswan..

I really loved this hotel. The view from my room (5th floor) over Aswan, the cataract, Elephantine Island, Aga Khan monument, was breathtaking. As the hotel is on a hill, I cannot imagine any other hotel offering views like that. The rooms are very clean, though a bit dated, and large, with a balcony. Very generous outdoor grounds, nice swimming pool and a perfect breakfast buffet. Nice little shopping center with very good prices for souvenirs. All in all - a hotel I would like to return to.

Its a giant hotel complex, and located in the south of the town centre, but love it because it was during their supposed off-season and they surprised us with an upgraded to a huge 2-bedroom corner suite! To say they did everything to make us feel welcome and helpful would be an understatement! From evening falukas and day-tour drivers to Unfinished Obelisk and Abu Simbel and even our last minute on-the-spot 3N2D Nile Cruise to Luxor! We made some great friendships and won't forget them! Thank you Aswan!! Negative: The evening menu..but I chalk that up to being the off-season, and not effort on the staffs part..because they were all helpful. Negative: No place to make small change with large bills or currency.

The Kato Dool Hotel is too beautiful for just one night but offers too little for a longer stay. This creates a contradiction, and there is still much work to be done. **Pros:** - The hotel features unique architecture with vibrant colors, staying true to the Nubian style. - The view is probably the best you can get in Aswan. - Every room includes a cozy balcony. - There is an outdoor terrace by the pool where you can enjoy food while overlooking the Nile. - The food they serve is good. **Cons:** - The food is very monotonous. 80% of the dishes are some variety of tagine. There are only a few vegetarian options, with most dishes featuring chicken, beef, or seafood. Seafood dishes must be ordered one day in advance. The waiting time for drinks and food is also very long—expect to wait 40-60 minutes after placing your order. - Many of the wooden furniture pieces need readjustment. Doors are difficult to open, windows don’t close properly, and closets won’t open. - There is only Wi-Fi in the reception area, with no coverage in the rooms. Management has been aware of this issue for over a year and promised to fix it, but nothing has changed (according to older reviews). - The rooms are very noisy. Whenever someone uses water on any floor, the boiler runs for several minutes, and you can hear every cough from neighboring rooms. - There are no blackout curtains, and the air conditioning is slow to cool the room. In the main area, there is also a loud beeping noise coming from the roof, which the staff hasn’t been able to stop. It is constant and extremely annoying when dining, relaxing, or sleeping. - The road leading to the hotel is unpaved, consisting of sand and rocks. - The hotel offers a tuk-tuk service between the village and the hotel, but there is little to do in the village. For trips to Aswan or other places, you need to book a private driver through reception. Each way will cost you about 800EGP every time - Although the hotel is branded as a 4-star wellness hotel, the only facility it offers is a pool—there are no other wellness services. - We paid around €400 for three nights, which isn’t a lot by European standards, but it is expensive for Egypt, and the quality of service did not meet expectations. The hotel is beautiful, but that’s about it. This was something we noticed throughout Aswan: prices are higher than in Luxor, but the level of service drops significantly. Even the bathrooms lack basic amenities, like toilet brushes. - There are many staff members, but their English is very limited, making communication difficult and leading to frequent misunderstandings. The only staff member who is easy to work with is Ahmed at the reception. He tries his best to make your stay more enjoyable. - A major downside is the lack of an alcohol license. While alcohol isn’t essential for a vacation, it adds a romantic element to the evenings with the stunning view. The hotel caters exclusively to foreign tourists,

The choice of accommodation in Aswan was varied, but I wanted to find something special. And it was during my research that the Nubian Palace, in Nubian Village, came up. How wonderful it was to arrive at the hotel, do the check-in while drinking a welcome hibiscus juice, and then find a wonderful room Nubian style. The bedroom, with 2 super comfortable single beds, also had a desk, chair and closet. Outside the bedroom, but within the area corresponding to the bedroom, in a small patio also with a table and chairs, was the private bathroom with shower. On the first morning, because I had a trip to Abu Simbel that started at dawn, the hotel prepared some breakfast boxes that were very useful. Furthermore, all the meals (open air) I had there were very good and in large quantity. Last but not least… The entire hotel staff was extremely friendly and efficient. They contributed to making this experience at the Nubian Palace a very successful one, which means that I definitely want to return there again in the future.

I absolutely loved this place. It is a little bit away from the city (about 3 miles/5 km) but that means you get a little private, quiet piece of the Nile from the room balcony. The staff were just excellent and took care of us so well. The front desk was always helpful and helped arrange our tours and taxis. The rooms were charming, clean, and orderly. The rest of the hotel is similarly clean and charming. When we arrived we had an issue with our room’s AC not working well, and the staff responded immediately and helped us move rooms when it was clear it wouldn’t be fixed quickly. They were similarly very responsive to our needs during the entirety of the trip. The security at the hotel is also great.

The Hotel was really beautiful, excellent facilities with nice architecture and decoration, impressive view to the Nile from the rooms, very clean and comfortable common areas and room. Relaxing and private setting. Unique experience. The service was good but we have some miscommunication problems with the staff serving at the restaurant. For us communicating in English with them was difficult, and it cost us some problems with our consumption and food bill. There is some room for improvement for the Hotel in that regards. Although the location for us was really nice for other guest or tourist may prove a problem, as it is not of easy access. Although the hotel offers a shuttle boat to mainland, we had to go through some long waits at mainland to get the ride. Without having a phone to call well in advance for transportation it becomes really different to access the hotel. We were lucky that our tour guide in Aswan, had his local phone and could always help us contacting the hotel and getting the boat for us.

I spent more than a week in Egypt, and the most annoying day was here. Choose carefully, not recommended, too remote, and the drivers in southern Egypt asked for exorbitant prices, which was not cost-effective.
The hotel arranged the airport pick-up, which was agreed to be 50, but it was still charged 75 US dollars when I got off the car. It was a 30-minute drive, expensive* self-evaluation.
The hotel is large and beautiful, but like the unfinished square monument in Aswan, this is an unfinished hotel. The TV is large but has no signal, and the room is large but has no slippers.
The driver who sent me to the hotel also temporarily increased the price by 1,000 Egyptian pounds, which was very unpleasant, and then kept harassing and threatening personal safety. I checked out early, and the hotel did not refund the fee.
There is a huge difference between the north and south of Egypt. If you are not going for a particularly in-depth tour, it is recommended to return to Luxor after Cairo. Otherwise, almost everyone intends to cheat, and all the prices will change.

It's a decent new hotel with clean facilities, and quite hotel. The staff are very polite, smiling and very helpful, I thank the reception team for everything, really all of you were wonderful. There is a hotel car and sometimes a mini bus that transported us to and from the hotel and its available at all times. I recommended this hotel, and will visit it again. Thank you again

Excellent
What sets the Kato Waidi Nubian house apart from its wonderful location inside the Nubian village and by the Nile riverside is the owner/manager Mahmud and his wonderful staff. Mahmud was super helpful when it came to guiding us about the things to do in and around Aswan and he also helped organize our trip to Abu Simbel and our drop to Luxor, at a very reasonable price. He gave us valuable tips on what to buy and where as well. Coming back to the resort, it is pretty big and very nicely done up. There are two sections - the main one is adjacent to the river and the second part is just behind it with at least one corner room with a full view of the river. The main section has a large open air dining area with many tables right next to the river. All the staff are extremely helpful and cooperative and the food is delicious as well. We tried the local dishes and really enjoyed them. The resort has a number of friendly cats and a couple of friendly dogs (which get bullied by the cats) and it was good fun to interact with them. We love animals and enjoyed the cats rubbing themselves against us below the table while we were eating but if someone is afraid of animals then this may be something to think about. Although we stayed in the annexe and not the main part of the resort, we also found it nice. All the buildings are built in the Nubian style of architecture with brickwork arches with no keystones. The rooms were functional and although a bit small, were ok. They gave a sense of what living in the village would be like. Our bathroom was large and nice too with a bathtub, although having a shower curtain would have helped. Anyway, I am nitpicking here. We loved our stay at the Kato Waidi and would love to stay there again.
This hotel is a destination on itself for several reasons. 1- It has the best ”accessible” view of the Isis temple. Warning: the very best view is just a quick hike to the top of the boulder pile on the east flank of the hotel; but don't do it- I got in trouble with 2 soldiers for trying to take pics from there- in Egypt the temples are protected by soldiers that don't want people taking pics from high angles. 2- You are spending the night in an authentic Nubian village. We loved our rooms! 3- The food is authentic, and in our opinion, the best Egyptian food that we had in our trip. 4- You get there in a boat! Add to that the top customer service and the friendliness of the hosts. Among the things they did for us: 1- The manager organized our trip to Abu Simbel with a funny and empathetic driver that never ever asked us for a tip (he got one of course but the point is that he wasn't pushy, which adds to the experience). The price for transportation was fair. 2- The manager let us watch the World Cup games in the TV that they have for the staff room- no TV in our rooms. Interacting with the staff adds to the trip experience. 3- We got our breakfast packed so we could take it during our drive to Abu Simbel. We didn't ask for it. We were a group of 5. All of us loved this place and if we ever go back to Aswan, we know where to stay. We would have loved to make more use of other facilities, or at least spend some significant time by the bonfire. Congratulations!
SSuiyilvxingjiaThis hotel is in the middle of the Nile River, which means that you need to drive a boat. The hotel has a boat. It is basically 200 pounds at a time, almost 30 RMB. It is mainly not hot and traffic jams. It should be 200 no matter how many people are. My friend and I are 100 per trip, and RMB 10 yuan. And this old man is very good, take us to their Nubian village to see the crocodiles, and take us to catch fish, people are very good. Super recommended, the room is really a bit stuffy, but there is air conditioning, basic facilities are available, we have no wifi when we live, but it is not important.
GGuest UserI immediately typed this review on my phone upon departure because I was so excited to post it when I had some time and internet. Hadouta Masreya is an incredible experience! My ONLY regret is that we didn’t have enough time as we didn’t land until 1:30 am and had to leave around 9 am. Hospitality: Hamed and Shereen were extremely accommodating during and before the trip, respectively. Shereen helped me coordinate via WhatsApp transportation from the airport (and to our Nile cruise pick up point), as the Nubian Village is not directly off a main road. Our drivers were there for airport pickup on time and patient with all of our luggage and how late it was. They even came back to take us to our Nile cruise pickup point. Furthermore, one of the drivers helped us contact our tour guide when we couldn’t find our guide at the cruise point. They ensured not to leave us until we were in safe hands! Upon arrival to the guest house, Hamed welcomed us with open arms- literally! He was on the steps upon arrival (it’s 2:30 am at this point) and super friendly and helpful! He offered us juices and helped set us all up. In the morning, he offered us snacks and beverages (as we were too tired to wake up early enough for breakfast- which was definitely offered!!). Just such wonderful hospitality and we felt so sad to leave! Room: My parents had a private room on the first floor and my husband and I had one at the top floor with the view of the Nile. Both rooms were clean and had functional AC! The bathrooms were updated. Like the vanity and tiles look better than the ones in my bathroom at home LOL. The mattress was on the stiffer side, but that’s a good thing for us, as we do prefer these types of beds. The view was incredible too in the morning when we woke up! Heads up before you book: the Nile view rooms have a lot of stairs so be prepared if that’s what you book. We knew that going in so we had ourselves mentally ready! Ambience: Nubian Village is so special and beautiful. I really want to come back and visit again! The colors are so vibrant and you could feel the sense of community and pride in their village as you’re driving through. There are cute markets within walking distance too. Overall, these positive reviews are spot on, and the pictures simply don’t do this properly justice.
GGuest UserIt is relatively remote here, and the sanitary conditions of the village are average. Maybe they will improve in the future. However, when I checked in, the surrounding environment was not satisfactory. There were many mosquitoes. Maybe their rooms will be disinfected before checking in, but When I felt that the scent of the room prepared for me was too strong, I changed it to a room without scent. I found that there were at least dozens of mosquitoes in it. I swatted 20 of them. The mosquito coils brought by the service staff did not work. In short, It would be more convenient if you only have a short stay from the airport. If you come here from the city, it is not a good choice. The staff in the store are warm and friendly. The boss's transportation quotation to the Abu Simbel Temple is consistent with my actual understanding. Some deviations.
KKalagandaailisiThis small hotel is in a small village. I went in February. It was dry and cold. The air conditioner could be cooled. The wind in the door was very strong. The panoramic room had a balcony on one side and it was colder. Sara at the front desk is more professional and can ask her if she needs to ask, but she goes to work at 10 am. The one in charge of the bar was very unreliable. The pot of hot water for us was unwashed. The pot of milk was released. The water soaked was all paste. The food and hygiene were completely untrustworthy. And sold us two bottles of water. We didn't order it, he took it directly to us. So we thought it was breakfast, and finally showed us the price list and asked us for money. I said you didn't tell us, he said you didn't ask. Aswan's first stop impression is therefore very poor!
GGuest UserWe booked Villa Misk because of the beautiful view overlooking the boats and Philae temple in the distance. The villa is slightly out of town, which makes it very peaceful and tea on the terrace overlooking the water is just wonderful. The hospitality here is second to none. Ahmed and his family went above and beyond to make our stay in Aswan the best that it could be. They were very accommodating of our early check in and late check out. Ahmed not only organised a visit to Abu Simbel for us from Aswan, he very kindly organised a driver for us for our time in Luxor as well. Our best memories in Egypt are all thanks to Ahmed’s kindness and expertise. Definitely book this place - it’s a gem.
