Rivertrees Country Inn

We started our Tanzanian visit at Rivertrees, Arusha. We were greeted by professional staff, stayed in beautiful accommodations, that were clean and safe and included little monkeys running around all over the place. It was a gorgeous setting. The food was delicious, fresh, with an interesting menu. The serving staff was phenomenal. Emmanuel, Isaac, and Azira, were fun, friendly, and professional. They all went over and above to make sure that we enjoyed our stay. I cannot say enough about our experience at Rivertrees. I highly recommend this property.

This is a fantastic hotel. The ambience is beautiful. The rooms are well appointed and the staff. Incredible. We really love the food, especially our waiter Nelson, who couldn’t have been more accommodating. Everything about staying here is pure heaven. I highly recommend it.

Like many we ended up at this hotel as part of a larger trip as our stay prior to departing Arusha. The property itself is decent given its location but we would not recommend staying here. The service both at lunch and at dinner was challenging, with not only slow service but the food quality was not lacking. It took us asking four times and 2 different people for us to get water at our table. If we hadn't been increasingly assertive I am not sure we ever would received water. Other areas you should be aware of; staff rolling their eyes when I asked about getting boxed breakfasts the next morning, they agreed but unsurprisingly there were no boxes ready when we checked out. Upon. check-out they repeatedly tried to charge us for items we didn't purchase and even after we got that settled, they punched in a higher amount into their credit card terminal. The property lost power multiple times which included no running water since the pumps shut off. I fully understand this can happen, but a heads-up from them would have been nice so we were prepared, if/when the power shut off. While it is a transient hotel for most that are coming for safaris, the basics just weren’t up to par with other popular options in the area.

Rivertrees Country Inn was a lush oasis that we stayed at for two nights at the beginning of our safari, and then used the country house and rooms on our way back for a respite in the middle of our traveling back home. The locations and grounds are very beautiful and the colobus and black-faced velvet monkeys added to the enjoyment of the property. The food was very good and there were plenty of choices for all the meals. The gift shop was well-stocked with reasonable prices. The service was slow at times in the restaurant and bar, otherwise this would have been five stars.

We arrived late (1am) from the US and stayed through the next day and the following night, which worked out great. It allowed us to get acclimated before heading out on our safari. The grounds were lovely, especially enjoyed the blue monkeys and the river. The accommodations were wonderful - plenty of room and all of the amenities. Great hospitality and very good food. We also stayed just for the day on our return, which again worked out really well and was very reasonably priced. So glad our travel agent recommended starting and ending our trip this way.

Monkeys and more monkeys all around the property. The property itself is very lovely and charming. Pool was beautiful and there were monkeys in the trees. Rooms were clean and well appointed. Food was good as well. Everything was very reasonable. We did not use the spa. You can talk a short walk around the property a staff person who pointed out various birds, took us by an impressive garden, and walked us along river. Good walk to get your bearings of the property. Hotel arranged afternoon canoe ride at lake duluti. It was well worth doing. Pricing through hotel was much better than a pre-arranged tour. They also arranged other tours which we did not do, like coffee plantation. We stayed for 2 nights before going on kili hike. There are nicer, more grand options but we loved the charm of this inn and of course loved seeing the monkeys. Highly recommend!
