Ambleside Hostels

Last minute I night stay to celebrate wedding anniversary. Stayed 5 years ago when hotel was part of English Lakes group, it has not changed much since then - some new outside furniture was all I noticed . And this is the reason for 4 not 5! Location, food and staff all great. And this is a great dog friendly hotel in the true sense that dogs can eat and stay with you in bar area and staff actively welcome them - which was one of the reasons for our return visit. Room 30 which is wheelchair accessible - just - (not for someone who is not independent as bath only and shower is fixed head) was ok. Comfy bed, nice view, convenient if you are wheelchair user. But stained carpet, rusty trims and grubby grout and cracked floor tiles in bathroom. Paintwork bashed and carpet creeping out from under door plates. Think room is overpriced for its current state. Would stay again in the hope that issues with the room will be rectified with a refurb/refresh.

The hotel is a distance away from the train station, but public transportation is very convenient. You can take bus 555 or 599 directly from the station, but you need to walk about 500 meters after getting off. The English breakfast provided by the hotel is great👍. Disadvantages: We booked a garden view room that day, but the room given by the front desk had no view at all. Because of the language communication problem, we did not point it out to the hotel front desk, and we checked in by default. The next day, I clicked on the pictures of other guests of the same room type provided by Ctrip again. The more I thought about it, the more unhappy I was, so I contacted the customer service staff, hoping to help solve it. Due to the lack of professional ability of the customer service staff, the solution given to me was not from the perspective of the guests at all. It was just a perfunctory solution that I could not accept. I rejected it immediately. Finally, Ctrip’s overseas customer manager came forward to solve it, and I reluctantly accepted their solution. As a black diamond member, I have always been satisfied and recognized Ctrip’s service. I hope this is an accidental incident. As a travel platform, Ctrip should strengthen management of overseas hotel suppliers so that tourists will not be troubled by language communication problems when traveling abroad.

Friendly and helpful staff, clean rooms and good parking. Located only a mile walk from the ferry and a short step away from the centre on Ambleside. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome. Will definitely be booking again for a return trip.

This hotel is unexpectedly good, especially when compared with another hotel in the Lake District, it highlights the goodness of this hotel! It is large in size, warmly decorated, and has a nice balcony. The location is good, the door is the green area by the lake, and it is also very close to the town center. There is a British fan especially during the morning meal. Definitely recommended!

Just had a 3 night stay at this lovely hotel. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. Our room was right near the entrance which was perfect as we had the dogs with us. Because we had the dogs our breakfast was set up in the lounge, which was so lovely and peaceful. The breakfast was gorgeous. Our room was spotlessly clean as was the whole hotel. Kettle with cups and saucers were in the room with plenty of tea, coffee, milk etc and if you run out you can help yourself from reception. The bedding and towels, all beautiful and white. The bed was so comfortable too. The staff were very friendly and efficient. The hotel is in a lovely setting. The only downside was the weather as it rained everyday more or less whilst we were there. If ever in Ambleside again we would not hesitate to stay there again and would recommend this hotel.

We used to stay here when it was the Regent Hotel, but this has all changed now. The Regent no longer exists , and has been fully converted to bedrooms, with main building being across the road “ The Wateredge Pub” rooms are good. However. …..We had booked in for 3 nights, but had to move on our second day as the electrics in the room were faulty. It was only after we moved that I realised it was one of the rooms where they allow dogs, and I could smell a doggy smell. I wasn’t going to move again - too much hassle. It’s a shame there is no longer a comfortable lounge to sit and read etc. only the pub across the road. Breakfast was fine.( included in our stay ). But the evening meal are very expensive in my opinion. £ 18 for chicken and a corn on the cob……..chips etc cost extra. £17 for a pork chop and sauce .”……..all veg extra at £4:50 per portion for EACH veg. Ridiculous! Staff are very friendly . Would I stay again ? probably not I’m afraid. But it was ok.

We had a very comfortable four day stay at Ambleside Lake House. It is set in an elevated position in a beautiful garden, overlooking part of Lake Windemere, just slightly outside the busy centre of Ambleside. Our room overlooking the garden on the first floor was spacious and light. The bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was of high quality and varied. A thank you to the friendly staff that made us feel welcome.
