Mixed feelings as is usual with the YHA. The location is good, the staff were nice, but often difficult to find, and their knowledge of the surroundings was very limited. Upon check-in the room was freezing. All the Windows were open and the radiators off...and they would have remained so late into the night had I not adjusted such. The WiFi, as is common in the YHA, only worked downstairs. The kitchen, however, was good, and there is a drying room and nice common areas along with a pleasant green outside. I think the property needs to prioritise (actually the YHA as a whole) the necessities, i.e., good WiFi, heated abodes during cold months and knowledge of the surroundings. Why not pin up a bus schedule for example?

Have visited many times when able to book a bed as it's popular. Walking from the doorstep in all directions from it's hilltop location adds to the sence of adventure of being in the Lake District. The hubs of Grasmere and Elterwater provide relief from the hillwalking exertions. The hostel is spacious and characterful with all of the facilities conducive to a walking holiday. Staff are consistently friendly, polite and helpful. Be prepared for hills!

Chatting with another guest at breakfast - we would both happily stay longer, alas our schedules did not allow. Substantial dining and lounge areas so plenty of people around in the evenings. No-where in walking distance, so everyone is in.

A fantastic place to stay. Staff were absolutely fantastic especially Christina and Niamh. Many thanks to both of them for the great service and for the great happy attitude they had. nothing was to much bother for them and I hope to see them both still there when I come back on October. The meals at this hostel would rival a 5 star hotel. Thanks to all staff there.

Stayed here whilst cycling in the lake district for a week. The hostel is a little bit outside of Ambleside, but there are a couple of routes you can follow to get to the town. Staff were really friendly and helpful, especially when it came to finding somewhere to store my bike. There isn't great signal in the hostel, but that is to be expected when staying in the lake district. I stayed in a dorm room, but private rooms are available if you want. I chose to self cater (kitchen is large and well stocked with utensils), but you can choose to be catered for if you'd prefer.

Of all the Youth Hostels I have visited this has to be the best I have been in. A great place with fantastic views. Staff there were absolutely brilliant. Very helpful and friendly especially Will and Thomas who went out their way to make everyone there feel very welcome, so a big thank you to you both. Will be visiting there again

This is a great hostel located above Elterwater and not far from Grasmere, with a bus route nearby for access to the Langdale fells. The staff were super friendly and helpful. Enjoyed star gazing and wandering around the NT High Close arboretum next door

This place is great and I don't want to recommend it. It's in a beautiful location, and an excellent hostel with friendly helpful staff and Manager, Miranda. I really liked the library and its geological and ecology books for adults and children and some good reads. very good kitchen and generally warm a**osphere.

Friendly hostel a stunning location with a beautiful arboretum on it's doorstep. A very friendly team give you a warm welcome here and great breakfasts served up by Niamh. It's a great spot to explore the Langdale Pikes and easily accessible by the 516 bus or car from Ambleside. I've knocked off a star as I think the bathroom facilities on the first floor are limited and need upgrading. However this is a small point for an otherwise excellent hostel with character and a beautiful verdant location.
