Tallinn Hostels

I booked ”Double room with shared bathroom” from Booking.com. When arrived to hostel (By the way, the entrance is pretty hard to find. Thanks at the Booking was a guide picture which helped me, because at the site of the hostel I didn’t find any guidelines for arrival.) turned out that I have booked one bed in two bed dormitory (with shared bathroom). I was shocked a bit, because the reason why I booked exactly this hostel and not any other (there is many hostels in the Oldtown) was that there I’d get a private room (at least I hoped so when was booking “a room”). So in my booking confirmation reads “1 adult, 1 ROOM, 1 night” not “1 adult, 1 BED, 1 night” (!) but I couldn’t do anything about it and got my one bed in two bed dormitory. Also when I asked is there coming woman or man the receptionist said that he doesn’t know (at this moment I was shocked for a second time because I have always thought that in hostel’s two bed dormitories are divided by gender when overnighters are not familiar for each other...). Later the receptionist came to inform that there is woman coming, so “don’t worry”, he said. I don’t want to blame the staff because it was very friendly and tried its best but on the other hand it’s not my fault if hostel’s booking system doesn’t work correctly. If the hostel offers its service from several sites it has to make sure that sites are in synchrony. But this is just my opinion. In general the hostel is that you can expect from hostel of this price range: staff tries its best but cleanliness is still pretty poor and rooms are very hot (not air conditioners in the hostel were detected). Also not all staff speak Estonian or Russian so you have to speak English. The kitchen was fine and the tableware etc. good. Only a kitchen knife (there were only knifes for eating) was missing. So my opinion is the following: if you are not traveling alone or it’s fine for you to speak English with hostel personal or your stay won’t be long (=no need to cook or take a shower too many times) or you just don’t have any places to go to overnight this hostel will be great for you and the staff will definitely welcome you warmly. In other case I kindly recommend to browse other alternatives in the Oldtown.

Good. The seaside city of Tallinn feels different from other cities in the three Baltic countries. Beautiful views of the city by the sea. The distance from the hostel is not bad, and it is a walking distance to the scenic spot. According to the price, the condition is also ok. It is that Tallinn is very windy at night, which may be a bit cold for those who are afraid of the cold. Overall, it is very suitable for tourism. According to the level of youth hostels, this one is also okay.

The clerk will speak Russian and English. The hotel is located about 100  meters from the old town hall. Very close. There are also light rail and buses at the door that are very convenient to go directly to major shopping malls and airports. It is a hotel in the ancient city. I like it very much. I will stay here next time I go back to Tallinn.

Villa Kadriorg is a budget friendly hostel/hotel that is on a direct bus route to the old town. If not for major upgrade works to the tram network then I believe it would also be on the tram line. I found my room comfy enough, if a little warm. It was a very warm few days in Tallinn though. Sadly, my room was right above a bar playing music until past 10pm. If you needed an early night to catch transport then that might be a problem. There's free WiFi and a small shared kitchen. The shared showers were a little grubby, but I suspect that is to be expected. There was also a bit of noise from some of the younger guests after 10. Sounds like I had a miserable stay but that is not so. Just be aware that the price will attract youngsters. I'd say that Villa Kadriorg is good value for money and a fine place to rest a weary head after a long day walking around beautiful Tallinn.
