A Castle View

The B&B is in a very quiet location with an excellent view to the sea.Yet, it is only a few minutes' drive away from a good pub/restaurant. Our room was spacious, well equipped with a comfortable seating area and very clean. Breakfast was excellent with some very unusual but very tasty options (poached egg on baby spinach). Parking was available, WiFi worked perfectly. Maree was very friendly at any time.
Bank Guest House

The payment for our stay was collected before our stay, which we knew about, what we didn't expect to arrive after a long drive to find no-one to let us in. I have no issues with using a lock box to access a key or follow instructions to gain access. A printed notice on the door said the arrival times which was when we were there. A mobile number was quoted but went straight to voicemail. No other options came to mind so we were about to carry the luggage back down a flight of steps to the car and ask at a hotel If they had a room. At that point a family group came down the stairs inside, they explained how they had received a phone call earlier giving them the location of their keys. We tried it, found a key and let ourselves in. About 10 minutes later we received a call back from the owner who confirmed we were in the correct room, she had tried to ring (possibly once) , had not got through or left a message. As she was tied up with something she had asked/hoped her husband would be there. Next morning at breakfast she apologised again. If the room had been wonderful, it wasn't, I might say it was worth staying. The tiny shower cubicle door didn't fit and floor tiles badly broken, all due to the age of the building.
Seaview John O Groats Hotel

Our room was across the road from the main building and reception desk. The check-in person was courteous and helpful. Parking is limited and we parked right up against the main building, only a few feet from the highway. So, great access to the highway! Our room was another story. It was very outdated, old, very small and crowded for two people. In much need of some updated renos, to at least modernize the room. The bathroom was also very small. They have you, because there isn't anything else around, and because of that, we were grateful to be able to get a room. It is peaceful and quiet, though, in John O'Groats, which is really nice. The saving grace for the hotel was our dinner in the bar. The food was very good. The Cullen Skink is very good, that was our first time eating Cullen Skink and certainly wasn't our last time during our tour of Scotland. What a great soup! The Sticky Toffee Pudding and the Cheesecake were also very good. The breakfast, which is included, was also good, and included hot and/or cold menu items. The road out to Duncansby Head is only a stone's-throw away from the hotel. That is where you walk through a meadow of sheep to beautiful views of ”The Stacks”, which are tall rock formations, separated from the cliffs. Worth the drive and the walk.

I stopped her with my group of guests and it was a delight. The hotel is warm, welcoming and immaculate. We had a lovely courteous welcome from Murray and Fiona and the young waiters Conlan and Sean. Sean was very happy to chat with my American clients about life in Wick and to show them the shortest street in the world Ebenezer Street. I only wish we could have stayed longer to explore this interesting town

Beautiful location and ideally located for getting the ferry to Orkney for a day trip. Louise is a fabulous host and just could not do enough for us. The room was beautiful with a lovely comfy bed and high quality bedding etc. Breakfast was awesome - basically anything you want made fresh for you, and lovely fresh fruit, Greek yogurt and cereals to eat while breakfast is being cooked. Our car broke down while we were there and Louise even took us up to the local pub for dinner, and picked us up again afterwards. We also waited at the house the morning we were meant to be leaving as we waited for the recovery service. She is an absolute gem!
