Aye Stay

What a delightful B&B! Charming, tasteful touches of Scotland throughout the establishment add to a warm and welcoming scene. Our room (#11) can accommodate 4 - including bunk beds. Even the lampshades are made from authentic Scottish T****. The hosts thought of everything. From tea and biscuits, to QR codes for WiFi connection, local map, and breakfast menu. The breakfast room is bright with large windows and the servers were all pleasant and attentive. The food was delicious and filled us for a full day of exploring. Parking is tight but off street, allowing for east access to things if needed. The stroll into town for the evening took us alongside the rushing river, across the beautifully lit bridge, and in the heart of pubs, restaurants, and shopping. It was incredibly convenient. Fabulous place, people, food— we will be back!
The Waverley Guest House

The hotel benefits are 2 minutes walk from the train station. I have two large beds with a bathroom, and each bed sleeps big and small. No problem. There are also some cheap rooms that are common to the restroom. Breakfast is normal, the mainland breakfast is basically cold food, after eating and packing, it seems that only one person at the front desk waiter is on duty, and once I saw her returning from the outside to buy food. The hotel does not have a parking lot and parking is troublesome. In addition, there is a Chinese restaurant in the hotel, which is very good. The picture is a street view outside the hotel, within walking distance to major attractions and shops.
The Waverley Inn

22nd August 2021 On arrival at The Waverley Inn, we couldn’t get in to the car park due to it being chained, spoke to someone on the contact number and he explained why it was chained up, Rangers FC was playing locally and to keep fans and their cars out. He came close to the car and asked if we wanted in, well we have a room booked was my reply, he opened the gate and on appearance he was a scruffy man, I thought he was the odd job man, no, he was the owner, he remarked about the football, huffing and puffing and chanting on about the football, and whilst I was taking bags out of car, he asked us to more or less to hurry as he may, may have others to book in different places because he has at least another building to manage. The entrance was tatty, wood work rotten, gaffer tape on stairs, ceilings going up the stairs, paint and what looked like filler was flaky and had fallen off, the curtain rail was electrical taped up and the TV, most channels were not obtainable due to poor reception and picture became pixelated and un watchable. And then there’s the extraction fan, scabby crusty filth in the vent and on the fan in the bathroom. I was on the cusp of giving the owner what for, when switching on the TV, BBC 1 and 2, Scotland’s equivalent channels not available, cracking pixeled screen, many channels not available, however we found one or two, if no TV that evening it would have been a different story. There was a young man in the reception ironing sheets, and what looked like the dining area, well thankfully no food was available, cold, un inviting, and immediately by the reception and front entrance. The owner gave us the key to the room, he then went on to explain and make excuse’s he couldn’t get staff, hence no breakfast or evening meals, thankfully. I opened the door and at first and at a nano second the room looked clean, no, far from it, the cups were dirty, stains on the wall near radiator and on the wall where the bed heads are, the window sills filthy, inside the shower cubicle has mould and on sink, and the shower leaks, drips that much, the floor gets wet, cubicle doors need to be shut I went down stairs and I was instantly asked what’s up? I ask for extra milk as there were only 3 milk and 4 tea bags, no where near enough for two for the entire evening and morning, I asked for extra and was given 4, yep 4, he stated he didn’t have a lot of milk or tea bags and other guests may ask for extra. I was told there was a shop in a certain geographical direction with a hand signal. The young man came up to wash the cups, he looked worried and I also stated there was no spoons and there were only “4 sheets” of toilet roll, he then said he and his aunty are solely responsible for cleaning rooms in what I believe in a Polish accent and responsible for cleaning for what I believe two buildings. I did say I wont tell his boss, he then went down stair to get extra tea bags and milk, later that afternoon I went out to get some bits from

We stayed just one night on our NC500 trip. The room was immaculately clean, the bedding drips and clean and the bed super comfortable. There is a cosy guest lounge with books and other reading materials available. We were not able to have the cooked breakfast as unfortunately Kathleen had tested positive for Covid and was keeping away from guests. Kathleen had tried to find alternative accommodation for us and called us the day before our arrival to tell us of this. She gave us the option of cancelling with full refund but explained that she had gotten someone else in to clean the guest rooms and she was staying away from guest areas whilst she was testing positive. She explained this would mean she would not be able to cook us breakfast but that they would place a tray in the room with fruits, breakfast biscuits and oat pots. This gave us the opportunity to make an informed decision as to whether or not we still wanted to stay. We chose to stay and we had a wonderful time despite not having the opportunity to meet Kathleen. I would highly recommend.

Lovely stay in Helmsdale as part of our NC500 tour. We had the family room which was great for parents and children or (as in our case) parents travelling with an adult tag along daughter ;) Great location in Helmsdale which is a small but lovely town. The museum opposite is good with a nice shop and cafe. We were spoilt with amazing weather which showed Helmsdale and the hotel off in its best light! The harbour is lovely too. Pet friendly hotel which was great. Breakfast was varied and buffet style. Would recommend!

Can’t fault this accommodation! The owner was very helpful with recommending locations for us to visit, places for us to eat in the evenings and was always happy to help which was very appreciated!! The room was tidy, spacious and just lovely to stay in! Breakfast was amazing - you have to preorder your main breakfast but there is also a buffet to have in addition with fresh fruit, pastries and more! Highly recommend, it’s an accommodation that clearly goes above and beyond for their guests and will return if we come back to Fort William :)

We visited inverness for a short time and we honestly couldn’t of had an easier accommodation experience, the staff are very friendly and attentive to your every need, when we first arrived they upgraded our room for free and let us check in early further more when we wanted breakfast in the morning it only cost us £10 a head and they offer a wide range of breakfast options, when we checked out they also let us keep our bags at the house whilst we spent our last few hours exploring the city. Highly recommend, priced well too.
