The Strand Hotel

Needed a room at the last minute and it was the only one available .... looking at the reviews I know why! However we did not experience some of these issues. No homeless around so don’t know if the hotel are still accommodating them anymore. We were upgraded to a sea view twin 227 which was an added bonus. The room was just repainted white so gave a fresh feel but you could see it was a quick refurb job. Furniture very dated and worn. No plug sockets near the mirror to do hair/makeup and you need to take your own hairdryer. I did get one from Reception. The beds were really comfy and although we were on the front with windows open we had a quiet nights sleep. There is free wifi and tea and coffee in room which was helpful. The sink is tiny in the really small toilet so filling the kettle is impossible. No catering facilities as the restaurant is closed but we didn’t need it..... don’t know why ! The lift is not working and this is said to be down to covid but don’t know how true this is tbh ! The place needs updating and would I go back ? Prob not because I couldn’t guarantee I would get a sea view room which I wouldn’t pay £154 for ! Their own website is not a true reflection of the hotel at this time. There is no mention of the restaurant being closed which might be an issue for some.
The View Hotel

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at The View. This hotel has a lovely location with wonderful views of the coast from most rooms. We had a king size balcony room. The room had been well valeted prior our arrival and the staff were very welcoming. The staff were really good throughout. The breakfast was very well presented and of good quality albeit the almost inevitable buffet. This was not a cheap stay with the room cost averaging over £200 per night and we do not believe that it represented good value for money. Our whole stay was marred by the standard of housekeeping. We returned to the room on the Sunday afternoon to find it half valeted. I had bled from a small cut on the head onto the pillow case. I made sure that I left the pillow blood side up to ensure that it was not missed. The bed had not been made and the pillow simply turned over. The bathroom was not cleaned, the cups and glasses unwashed and the tea tray had not been cleaned or refreshed. We reported this to reception but it took a very long time for housekeeping to come and complete the valeting. To make matters worse the young lady admitted that she valeted the room but said that she had not turned the pillow over. A plain lie. So although hotel has good points we will not be visiting again.
Shore View Hotel

The Shore View is a bit of a mixed bag: on the one hand, it's location is a good one right on Marine Parade with sea views and a short walk to the Victorian Pier, the Redoubt ruins, and the very lovely centre of Eastbourne with it's shops, amenities and restaurants. Tea-making facilities were available in rooms which was a bonus. And I must mention the staff present were exceptionally polite and reception was friendly and efficient. The hotel is also housed in a gorgeous historic Victorian building but with sadly now-faded glamour. It would take a lot of funds to return it to it's former glory and because of the upkeep it does appear the hotel is struggling with some other aspects of it's offering: the rooms are a decent size but quite dated, some of the linens could have been replaced as showing signs of wear, and - whilst appreciating the hot breakfast offer - the food was not of the best quality: cheaper-brand sausages and mushrooms that appeared to come from a can/tin, not freshly prepared. Coffee was instant, husband was NOT a fan, and customers had to ask for their bread which was handed to them from a tray behind the counter or toasted according to their wishes which took some time. It all felt a bit like necessary cut-backs to keep the place going... All in all, it was ok for a stopover for one night: our family of four had two doubles on the same floor, separated by a little corridor so fairly close together. The rooms were similar, one had a side-sea view but also faced the local pub which then went on to have a Saturday club-night keeping my husband and son awake for quite a while; my room had a larger bathroom but lacked any view which consisted of the back yard and bins of another building, the emptying of which elicited a loud conversation in the morning hours between what I presume were some of the neighbours (?), a shame. We also noted there was a lack of pillows in both rooms, only one flat pillow per person, which we found odd!
The Sheldon B&B - Free Private Parking

Excellent location for the beach, various restaurants, shops and the railway station - with the added bonus of having on-site parking. We were welcomed by the lovely Nickole who was full of smiles and very friendly. She explained the breakfast room, showed us the evening facilities (i.e. if you wanted use of a microwave), and where the lounge area was (with drink facilities if required). Our booking was for 2 single rooms and as requested were on the same floor. The rooms, each with their own bathroom, have everything you need and the beds were very comfy. Overall this B&B is nice and clean and in a good location. At the end of my stay I had the pleasure of meeting the owner Steve and through our chat I could see his passion for ensuring his guests would have a great stay (since they took this place on last year), and that he would be a good custodian of this lovely old Victorian building. I look forward to returning in the very near future.
Cavendish Hotel

We were checked in for a two night stay and were given 3 rooms in total due to our horrific stay. The first room we were given was absolutely filthy! We requested a new room which we were given and only got worse from there. At 2:30 am we were woken up in discomfort and itchy, only to get up and investigate the bed and find multiple bed bugs across the bed and pillows. It was horrific!!!! The bites I have received were disgusting and what was even more upsetting and disappointment was the reaction of the staff. We were moved to another room at 3am and were told to complain to the day staff in the morning which we did. They only offered us a complimentary breakfast and 10% off our stay which was only £10.30. £10.30 after all we endured during our stay is laughable!!!! If only we could upload videos of the bed bugs we took, the pictures do not do it justice at all. NEVER EVER STAY AT THIS HOTEL. Especially if you value your peace, sanity and skin.
The Grand Hotel

We stayed for 3 nights as a family with children under the age of 6 and had the best time. The hotel service is exceptional, every need was met. As soon as we arrived we were greeted by the valet who helped us park the car and take our bags. They reserved our space for us with a board for the whole stay. The children received a kids backpack with hat, yo-yo and colouring in. We went straight down to the health club to the indoor pool. When we came out the reception said our room was now ready and collected the keys for us. Our room was a junior suite, it spotless and sizeable with drinks provided on ice and slippers for everyone. In the evening the children could order complimentary milk and cookies which they loved. The outdoor pool was heated and lovely when the sun was out, this was end of may/June. There also was a waiter serving drinks outside. The breakfast was amazing, great selection and the kids loved have every meal served with a cloche and countdown reveal. The added extras on the service make this a wonderful hotel. The positives far outweigh the negatives, I guess it could do with some new carpets and some new upholstery but the charm of the old building supersedes this and although old it was very clean. The bed mattress was ok, quite soft. The sofa bed wasn’t very comfortable but ok for young children. We will be back again!! Thank you
