The magnificent Leopoldskron Palace and its pond served as the backdrop for one of the key scenes in “The Sound of Music”. The Salzburg Museum is now staging a "guest performance" here, presenting a special exhibition as a preview of the new Museum, which will open in Hellbrunn in 2026.
The Sound of Music-museum will offer comprehensive insights into the true story of the von Trapp family, the Broadway musical, and the films. "Facts and fiction," artifacts, documentary photos, movie posters, programs, and much more will bring the life of Maria von Trapp and the cinematic fairy tale starring Julie Andrews to life. The museum site will also include the famous “Sound of Music” gazebo.

Go there for the beautiful garden outside with all the amazing sculptures. Need to know, a scene from the do-re-me song from the movie The sound of music was shot there. You also get an amazing view of Fortress Hohensalzburg. It says it&#39;s free to visit the palace but there&#39;s really only one staircase and a small room you can see and it&#39;s not marked out. I think it&#39;s mainly used for concerts. It&#39;s still worth a look especially the staircase with all the sculptures.
