Although the water surface here is small, it&#39;s called &quot;Xihai&quot; (West Sea), and it&#39;s the only wetland park within Beijing&#39;s inner city! It only opened in 2023, and many Beijing residents are unaware of it. Xihai Wetland Park has no gates, no entrance fees, and is open to the public everywhere. The nighttime lighting is incredibly dreamlike.

Xihai Wetland Park covers an area of ​​10.9 hectares, including 7.4 hectares of water and 3.5 hectares of surrounding green space, with a 1450-meter-long lakeside walking path. Historically, the Shichahai area was originally a river and lake wetland in the lower reaches of the ancient Yongding River. From the Jin Dynasty onwards, it was named &quot;Bailiantan&quot; (White Lotus Pond) because of the white lotus plantations. From the Yuan Dynasty onwards, it was called Jishuitan and Shichahai. Whether in the poems left behind throughout history or in the modern writings of Lao She, Shichahai is depicted as a natural ecological wetland park.

Wild ducks flutter across the water along the boardwalk, egrets dart through the reeds&mdash;the photos straight out of the camera look like documentary footage! No wonder it&#39;s called &quot;Little West Lake of Beijing.&quot;

It is the end point of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, the predecessor of Shichahai, the water entrance of the western water gate of Beijing, the Dragon King Temple personally designed by Yao Guangxiao, and also contains a meteorite from outer space.
