Wor Bella is a tribute to the courageous North East women who played football during World War 1. These women, known as munitionettes, formed factory teams in Teesside, County Durham, Wearside, Tyneside, and Northumberland to support wartime charities. The inaugural 1918 Munitionettes Cup final, held at St James' Park in Newcastle, drew a staggering crowd of 18,000 people, while later, 22,000 spectators filled Ayresome Park in Middlesbrough to witness the event. Blyth Spartans Ladies, with their star centre forward Bella Reay, achieved great success during this time, with Bella scoring an impressive 33 goals in 30 matches. She was widely recognized as the Alan Shearer of her day. This event will feature a talk by esteemed local playwright Ed Waugh, known for his works such as Hadaway Harry, Carrying David, The Great Joe Wilson, and Mr Corvan's Music Hall. Ed will delve into the history and significance of women's football during World War 1. From Durham, we took a bus north to Newcastle. Compared with Durham Village, Newcastle is a big city. At Durham Railway Station, I also saw several students going to Newcastle for dinner. The train arrived in about ten minutes. Here I actually saw the city wall, Hadrian&#39;s Wall. In fact, this is the northernmost border of the British province of the Roman Empire. It is similar to the city wall in China, both of which are used to defend against invasions from the north. Along the Tyne River from west to east is the entrance to the sea. In those days, the King of England built some castles here, consisting of a wooden spire main building and an earthen outer wall. New Castle is the source of the name Newcastle.
